Catholic Brides- Does the priest stay for dinner??
For those of you who are having the priest at your wedding... how does it work? Are you paying for his dinner? He leaves right after the blessing right? Thanks!

From my experience working in a catering hall, unless they are a family friend they usually leave. I think it is always nice to invite them anyway.

I'm not sure of your Q. Are you having the ceremny at the reception hall? WHat blessing? Are you referring to a dinner blessing? If he's staying to saya blessing over a meal, I'd assume he's eating it too.
I've only seen a priest come to a reception if he was a very close friend of the family, but that's my experience. Clarify what you mean and I may be able to help you more.

we are having the ceremony at the church and the reception at the reception hall. He mentioned he was coming to do the blessing before dinner, but I'm not sure how it works. He's not a close family friend.

He's going to come all the way to the reception hall to doa blessing? I've never heard of that before. If he's coming to the reception hall separately I'd assume he's staying for dinner. Just give him an invite.

Cheryl, my priest said the same thing to me. I am going to give him an invite anyway. I think he will probably just give the blessing and then leave. In your case I would think that he is just coming to do the blessing and then leaving.

I'm so bad b.c I FORGOT to give him the invite!! Mike and I realized this 2 weeks ago. I called right away- Father was off, then it was holy week... now it's the week of my wedding and we're not sure what to do!
PS- my church is only 2.5 miles down the SAME road from the Milleridge Inn, so he's not traveling far at all.

Oh ok. Then he's probably not staying for dinner. if you forgot to give him an invite. At the reception hall, your or your parents cna say 'Father, please stay for dinner' and he probaby won't! If he does, adding a person won't screw up your hall. At my sster's wedding several people brought dates w/o telling us.
