Catholic brides: Friday lunch

Original post by thelilacone

Yey no meat no friday! I normally bring cream cheese sandwiches with me to work, but there was not cream cheese in the fridge this morning. I have no idea what to have for lunch!

What's everyone else having?

Edited for punctuation.

I have a WW Cheese Ravioli Meal.

For some reason, I get into moods for meat on Fridays during lent!

i barely eat meat as well (chicken and turkey only) and i also get into the mood for those meats on fridays during lent.

I was talking about this with a friend last week and my aunt yesterday and they agree.

I told my friend that it's funny, I try my hardest not to eat meat on Friday during lent but, I live with my FH!

I think in the grand scheme of things a bologna sandwich is ok

I think it's from scripture with the story that Jesus taught a man how to fish and he never went hungry. The Bible states it's not meat-so it's not meat. I could be wrong, though.

This is from the original Latin text of Pope Paul VI's apostolic constitution Paenitemini:

Quote:
(Translation): The law of abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, the products of milk, or condiments made of animal fat [III:1].

The word used for meat is carnis. In modern English, the word meat can refer to any animal flesh. But, in the Latin cited here, it refers to mammals and birds only. So, fish, seafood, amphibians, and insects are permitted (assuming you want to eat some of them); but mammals and fowls are not.

Biologically speaking, fish is meat. However, fish has not always been considered ‘meat.’ The word meat is often used to refer specifically to the flesh-meat of mammals and birds. For example, many cookbooks put meat and fish in different categories without specifying ‘flesh meat.’ Even in many modern languages, such as Spanish, the word for meat (carne) does not include fish.

Re: Catholic brides: Friday lunch

i'm not catholic, so sorry for the crash!
but you know what's wierd? for south asians, all seafood is also meat. so indian veggies don't eat fish, and on holy days the non-veggies dont eat fish either.

i remember when i was a vegetarian, a couple of times I ordered stuff only to find out there was seafood in it. then i'd complain and have waitors argue with me that 'seafood is not meat!!'

i always thought it was interesting how for the judeo-christians fish is not meat, but for asians it is.

now i know why!!!
