Catholic Brides - Question...

Catholic Brides - Question...

Does anyone know what is the correct amount to donate to your Church on your wedding day??

I know you are supposed to tip the Priest, Altar Attendants and Musician, however, around how much should go to the church??

Our Priest suggested going by the amount spent on the Wedding Dress, however, that is WAY too much in my case. I am clueless...Help!

Catholic Brides - What we did...

Our church where we got married told us the fee - $350, although I'm sure it varies at each parish. My former church (not Catholic) in Manhattan had fees for the organist, wedding coordinator, minister and building maintenance man that total about $1000!!!

We gave the organist, alter servers and priest additional tips as well.

Tina, the church didn`t give you a set fee?? Our church gave us a sheet w/ the price of the churh, singer, organist, alter boys, and anything else. Our total will cost $501. to be exact. thats not fair for your church to estimate by the cost of your dress, that can be awfully high! good luck, I hope you can come to a reasonable number!

This is something I didn't think about. If the church has a fee or a 'mandatory contribution' do I still need to tip?
I know they are all getting paid anyway. Can anyone offer a % or an amount to help.
Also, do I have to give each a seperate tip. this is not something I want to worry about.

Well, my church charges $200 for the ceremony and it's $165 for the organist and singer. We have to tip the priest, alter servers(2), and cleanup person separately.

Our church requested $250 to cover the cost of operating the church, janitors, and organist/singer. They want no more and we wouldn`t give less. We are giving the priest a gift instead of a tip since he is a family member. We will probably give the alterboys about $15 each, but we are going to check with some current alterboys to see what a good tip is.
Most churches request more than our church (pre-cana was free).

Our church is charging us $500 for the altar boys, organist and custodians. We'll probably give the priest a gift and tip the altar boys and custodians.

when do you tip?

my church costs between $500-700. I'll find out Tuesday. I can see tipping the alter boys. I like the gift idea for the priest. (any suggestions) I guess a small tip for the singer and organist. (would $25 each be ok?)

When do I give them these tips?

When we reserved the church we were handed a stack of envelopes with suggested donations totaling $575.00. This includes $100.00 for the organist and $70.00 for the Cantor.

The fee for our church, which includes the organist and 1 singer, is $500. It is an additional $125 for a trumpeter and an additional $125 if we want an extra singer.

Our Church recommends a 200 dollar donation.
We have to pay the singer/organist separately and I believe
his fee is 150 dollars. Our priest did not metion anything about tipping altar boys etc, but we were planning on giving the church a bit extra anyways.
It is odd that your priest didnt recommend a donation, but perhaps the best thing to do is to give as much as you can afford. Perhaps that is why he suggested
to guage it by your wedding dress price?
