Catholic Brides Question

The biggest hassle about this DW is getting all of FH's certificates from Ireland to sent to the chancery over here!

We finally got an updated copy of his baptismal- there is also his information for his confirmation on it- do you think they would need his confirmation as well?

TIA

Re: Catholic Brides Question

I don't think you do. So far, my church has only mentioned the Baptismal Certificate. But I'd just talk to someone to double check.

Re: Catholic Brides Question

I recall the preist telling us that we needed the confirmation records as well as the baptisimal records.

By the way, I am having a panic attack because my FH is from Ireland too and I never really even thought about how difficult it might be trying to get those records.

Good Luck!

Re: Catholic Brides Question

the church asked for all our sacrements. i am getting married in the same church as my baptism, communion and confirmation, but they could not find my communion info but found my confirmation info.. i could not get confirmed without being baptized and receive holy communion so they were ok with it. fh received all his sacrements in april so that we could get married.

Re: Catholic Brides Question

thanks-- we actually need it to give to the parish priest here, who sends it to the bishop here, who then sends it to the bishop in Ireland, who then sends it to the preist who is marrying us!

Plus- FH was born and baptised there, made his communion here, went back there, made his confirmation (at a different parish) so its all these diff documents! I will call our preist today and find out.

Re: Catholic Brides Question

I recently was confirmed so I know exactly what they're talking about. Catholic people go through 3 sacraments before getting married..

1) Baptism
2) Holy Communion
3) Confirmation

When all 3 are completed/finished the baptismal certificate is documented with all 3 of your sacraments stating that you have completed them. It should be documented on the back of the baptism certificate. When getting married the priest should ask you for your baptisim certificate which SHOULD state all 3 sacraments. If it doesn't (in my case of course it didn't), then you need to call to each church for the records.

My church had to have both.

I had my sacraments at the church we are getting married (and so did FH), but I think they do need them.

They need all 3, because I wasn't confirmed. Thats why I'm starting classes this month to make my confirmation. It mandatory in my church.

Re: Catholic Brides Question

Callan, I beleive all he should need is his baptismal certificate. What is SUPPOSED to happen, and whether or not it did in Patrick's case is another story, is that all the sacraments and when and where they were received should have been recorded on the back of the baptismal certificate.

For example, when I requested mine from the church i was baptized in (haven't been parishoner there in over 20 years, we moved) all of my OTHER sacraments where already recorded on the back. the other churches where i received the other sacraments send their records to the church where the baptism was. the church where you are baptized is like the 'master' church... they should have ALL the records, which is why the church asks for the baptismal certificate only because they are assuming that all the subsequent sacraments received are already on the back.

HTH....and good luck!!!

Re: Catholic Brides Question

My church wanted the Baptismal certificate for the both of us most of all. On the back of that certificate are slots for where information on your Communion and Confirmation (dates and locations) go. It's like an updated list. Your wedding date would go on the back after you got married too.

Re: Catholic Brides Question

The priest asked for all sacraments. It was hard coz we had to get them from Peru. We only got the Baptism and Confirmation. Which I think is ok coz u cant make confirmation without baptism

Re: Catholic Brides Question

My priest wanted both our baptism and confirmation info. but as my FI never made his confirmation he said baptism is OK. The church can't make anyone make a confirmation, as long as you are baptized you are considered catholic and can be married in the church. He also told us that you have to have the church where you were baptized issue a new baptism certificate no more than 6 months before the wedding. It proves that you were never married, which is why it can't be dated any sooner than the 6 months.
