I was at my church the other day and was told that the only wedding party members who stand up at all during the ceremony are maid of honor and best man. And the rest of the bridal party sits in the first pew but does not stand up at the alter at all. I think it might be a catholic church thing but am wondering if anyone else has seen this or is doing this or if everyone is having their whole bridal party stand up during the vows?

All of the Catholic weddings i've seen they just have the MOH and BM standing. The rest of the BP were in the first rows. They just stand up and kneel when everyone is supposed to during the mass. HTH!

Okay, thanks! So I guess my church isnt the only one. I was kinda looking fwd to my whole bridal party standing up with me- oh well! :/

maybe you can talk to the priest and see if you can do it how you want it. Our ceremony is at the RH, non-denominational and i'm having our BP stand with us the whole time. Its just a 15 minute ceremony and we only have two BM and two GM. I know some churches don't like to stray from tradition, but you never know! Couldn't hurt to ask!

yea, i think it's only the MOH and BM who stand. I've never seen the entire bridal party stand

i was in a wedding in september that was a full mass wedding....and yes -- the BP sits in the first pew while the & were with the MOH and BM up at the altar. they bring chairs up there for all 4 people......as you have to stand and sit at difference times.
ETA: forgot to say it was a Catholic church---as far as i know that is the way it is set up for all catholic church weddings.

I know in my church (R.C.) the bridal party sits in the front pew and does not stand however a friend of mine got married in VA in a R.C. church and they had the entire bridal party stand for the ceremony on the alter during the part where they made their vows.

There'd be no where for them to stand/sit on the altar. Its only the MOH/BM.

well i got married in a catholic church , the bp sat in the 1st two pews excep for when we said our vows then the whole bridal party was brought up

Yes that's true, everyone else sits off to the side or in the first pew and MOH & BM are with you and the groom

at my friend's wedding, the BP sat in the frst pew, while the MOH and BM stood with the bride and groom.
