Catholic Ceremony

Catholic Ceremony

Anyone know the traditional elements of a Catholic Ceremony? Like, how many readers, how many songs do we need to select, what else do we need to do? What gets said when we do the unity candle?

It depends - are you doing a full mass or just the ceremony?

When you sit down and meet with the priest / deacon he will definitely give you that information.

I have a booklet at home. We are doing just the ceremony and having 3 readers.

They give you choices for the readings - you can pick from like 3 or 4 different choices for each part of the ceremony.

Here's a website that might help you... As far as specific elements for your ceremony- you should go over that with your priest/ deacon/ whoever is marrying you... Also, it will determine if you're having a full mass or not.

Good Luck!

It is a ceremony only - no mass.

I know we're going to meet with the priest, but I'm just trying to think of what I can get together before that.

Also - I hope it's not true that I can only pick from a few readings - I already have two in mind. One of them isn't even from the Bible - is that allowed?

I was given a choice of readings. I don't know what your church will allow, but those were my only choices. . .we weren't allowed to bring in our own. You have room for 3 readers doing just the ceremony. I wouldn't really worry about getting things ready so much. . .I would wait and see what they tell you first. JMO, it might save you some trouble!!

When you go to Pre-Cana, you will get a workbook that will have a list of readings for you to choose from. You'll need to pick 1 reading from the Old Testament, and another from the New Testament. You'll also need a reader for the Prayer of the Faithful. Depending on your church, you may or may not have input as to which Gospel reading the priest does. HTH!
