Hey guys, I have a question about getting married in a Catholic Church. Both my fiancé and I were baptized and made our first communion, but neither of us was confirmed (funny coincidence). We're definitely leaning towards getting married by a judge at our reception site, but I was curious if anyone knew if a church would marry us as we are now (easily!), without having to get confirmed. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

My fiance and I received all our sacaments...however, the church only asked for use to show proof that we were baptized. I don't know if all churches are like this now...you should definitely ask what you need to show proof of. I was surprised that they didnt ask for everything!!!

They might. I think that it depends on the church. I'm not 100% sure though.
My FH was only baptized in the Catholic Church and nothing else, however, I preformed all of my sacraments (baptism, communion, confirmation), so it's not an issue for us.
If you want to get married in a Catholic Church, is there any reason why you wouldn't want to go through with your conformation?
ETA: They just asked us for our baptism certificates too.

I believe that 1 of you has to have made confirmation to get married in a Church. I was my FH was not. But priest may be willing to work with you and slide you through if you really wanted a Church wedding. Good Luck!

It's not that I'm opposed to getting confirmed, it's just that getting married in the church isn't super important to me, it'd just be to make some relatives happy. So if it was easy for me and FH, I'd do it. But if I'm gonna have to jump through hoops, I'd probably skip. The confirmation process coupled with Pre-Cana classes would be a workload!

they only asked my FH and I if we were baptized and they needed proof. I would call a church and ask.

Our church asked about baptism and confirmation. Every church is different and some are stricter than others. I would suggest you call your church.

This is what I thought. That at least one of you would need to be confirmed. (FH are getting married at our childhood church so they never asked us for any kind of proof) You should contact the church and ask or check the Rockville Centre Diocese website. What's the worst that can happen? If they say you can't get married at the church you can ask about the 2 of you making your confirmation.

Our parish required that both of us have all our sacrements in order to get married there (FH was only baptized) so FH went and got confirmed and now we are getting married at a church closer to our venue and they only require being baptized lol...go figure

'Q. Is it necessary for us to receive the sacrament of Confirmation before getting married in the Catholic Church?
If at all possible, according to Canon Law, Catholics are strongly encouraged to receive the sacrament of Confirmation before getting married in the Catholic Church. However, it is not absolutely necessary nor an impediment to entering into the sacrament of marriage.'
That's from the RVC Diocese website. So, I'm guessing it really does depend on your parish.
I think it does depend on the parish. My cousin had to be confirmed before he could get married (this was back when I was a baby though, so things could have possibly changed since then).
We were just asked to get out baptism certificates, but the baptism certificates have notations on the back with all of your other sacraments, so it's possible they'll look to see if either of you were confirmed?
If it's not that important to you, I would say to just do the ceremony that will make you both happy!

Re: Catholic Ceremony
Most if not all Catholic churches will ask that you be confirmed prior to being married as there are a series of sacraments. You can call the rectory and find out your answer.

My church only asked for the same, as of now anyway. I have been on the phone with the priest at least five times this past week. He keeps calling to ask me lil questions. I kinda like that he is so interested but some of the questions are the same. Not sure if I should be scared. Anyway, the last phone call was to remind me we need to bring our baptismal certificates.

You can still get married at a catholic church but as far as having a full mass I'm not too sure
