Catholic Ceremony Music...

I haven't had the chance to call my church about this, so I'll ask you guys. What are some music selections that an Organist and/or Soloist plays during the ceremony (names). Also, does anyone know of a good website that I can download music clips? Thanks so much!

Off the top of my head, I can't remember the composers, but I do know the names of what I used. I hope this helps - your organist should be familiar with all of these. You can visit WeddingChannel.com for more ideas. I'm not sure about sites to download, but I did find some CD's in the local music store that helped me pick these selections. Good luck! The Wedding March (Here Come's the Bride) The Prince of Denmark's March (Bridesmaids procession) Canon in D (seating of guests) Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (seating of grandparents/parents) Ode to Joy (Bride and Groom recessional) Ave Maria (Unity Candle)

When you go to Pre-Cana you get a booklet of readings and songs. Most Churches have an organist and soloist included in their price, or avaiable to you. I hired Janet King, harpist for my ceremony. We asked a close friend to sing a song for us. The rest will be instrumentals. Weddingchannel.com has some good music threads too.

Michele31...not necessarily true

I just wanted to mention that not all parishes give out song lists at Pre-Cana. (I saw another post where you suggested the same thing.) I know your intentions are to be helpful, but I wanted to point out that what you are suggesting might not be the case for all parishes. :) For example, our priest gave us all of our materials when we first met with him to book our date and fill out the necessary paperwork. It was my responsibility to contact the parish music director to arrange a meeting and settle the music selections for our ceremony. I think the best advice is for brides to call their parish and ask if they provide a standard list, or just call the organist directly and discuss your options. Good luck!

MiniBride

Thanks for that information. I, along with a lot of brides I spoke to, were told that we would get our music list at Pre-Cana. That, of course, probably assumes that the bride is taking Pre-Cana within the Parish she is getting married in. I was also told that I would get reading selections during Pre-Cana. Did your priest give those to you too? Did you take Pre-Cana in the same Parish or in a different one?

Readings/music for ceremony

We took pre-cana within the same parish that we were married in. Our priest provided the book of readings, and a very lengthy parish 'guidelines' document that provided very specific instructions for some of the vendors that were going to be part of our day. This booklet also included ceremony music suggestions. I found it very helpful, and I liked having it early in the planning process b/c it provoked me to consider certain things that I probably wouldn't have thought of on my own! For the record, I certainly wasn't saying you were wrong, it's just that (obviously) every parish provides this detail at different times and brides should call their parishes to be sure.
