Usually how many readers do you need for a church ceremony? And are there any requirements? For example, do they have to be Catholic, do they have to be family member, etc?

Re: Catholic Ceremony- Readers
There are usually 2 readers and you can also have another person do the responsorial psalm. As far as I know there aren't any requirements for who can/should do the readings. I believe you can choose whoever you want.

Re: Catholic Ceremony- Readers
we have 4 -- old testament/new testament/responsorial psalm/prayer of the faithful...but you don't have to have that many. But if you have a lot of readers you want to include, you can.
ETA: it doesn't matter if they are catholic

I've always seen 3 I think. Similarly, how many people carry the gifts?

Re: Catholic Ceremony- Readers
i think most people go with 3 for the readers - first reading, second reading, prayer of the faithful.
i was told that there was no limit as to how many people you can have to present the gifts (although they recommend no more than 4). i'm using 2 people, my brother used 3. i think it all depends on personal preference.

Re: Catholic Ceremony- Readers
we had 5 readers for 4 readings
first reading (old testament) second reading (new testament) responsorial psalm prayer of the faithful (2 readers split it up)
we also had 2 friends present the gifts and 1 friend who was a eucharistic minister serve the mass.
