does anyone know if both people have to be catholic to be married in the catholic church? i keep getting mixed answers from people. I am catholic but my fh is not, and i do not want to make him convert if he does not have to. it is really important to me to get married in the catholic church and i know he would convert for me if there was no other option. but i am just not sure. does anyone know?

Re: catholic church
the answer is no you don't both have to be catholic, however your fh will have to sign something about it, i forget exactly what it says, but its something like he understands about getting married in a catholic church.....of course like the other girl said he cannot receive communion.

Yes I think he can. Talk to your preist. Also dont do a full mass. Just have the ceremony. There is no communion.

Re: catholic church
I have a meeting with my priest about this on Tuesday. I'm catholic, FH is episcopalian. Over the phone, the priest told me that we can get married in the catholic church AND go to the altar as long as we go to the church and I sign a 'Permission to Marry a Non-Catholic.' We don't plan on doing a full mass so the communion thing isn't an issue for me. I'll let you know more after my meeting on Tuesday if you want.

I agree. And I forgot to mention that I made it very clear to my priest that FH is a baptized and confirmed episcopalian.

Re: catholic church
You can get married but have to agree to raise the children Catholic and you can't have a full mass - just the ceremony.
