My FH and I sat down with a Priest from my Church and booked our wedding this past March. The wedding is in April. We have pre-cana in November and I was thinking that some time in October we'll sit down again with the Priest and give him my FH's baptismal certificate and confirmation certificate from his parish.
Two questions: 1. Is it bad that I haven't been keeping in contact with the Priest or anyone from the Church regarding my wedding since March? I don't know what exactly is making me panic about this.
2. The Priest we met with was real nice BUT he has an accent and it's sometimes hard to understand him. My Church has a Monsignor who seems to be real nice (and is understandable). My mom keeps telling me to request the Monsigner. Do you think that the Priest who basically booked our date and gave us information on what to do is already booked as the one doing our wedding? I feel bad asking for the Monsignor if that's the case.

Re: Catholic Church girls question
I wouldn't worry about being in contact with the priest. FH and I booked our church in March. When I went to give the priest his certificates, I asked him when we should meet again and he said at the end of the year to complete his questionnaires. So unless your church has a different way of doing pre-marriage activities, you should be fine.
As far as who officates your ceremony, its entirely up to you. Our priest didn't even realize he was going to be officating our ceremony until I told him so! In my church, unless you ask for someone specifically, the pastor/monsignor assigns whoever is available. I agree with your mom and would ask for the Monsignor. Or if you don't feel comfortable talking to the priest directly, see if you can speak with the Rectory's secretary.

Re: Catholic Church girls question
we met with our deacon once and now we are scheduling our foccus test and pre-cana but i dont think there are any specific times you have to contact them... i think if they need something they will let you know....
as far as the msgr.. ask for him! i dont think its a big deal
we were told that since we are having our ceremony on a sunday we would have the deacon (which is fine by us) and we cant have a full mass (also fine)

I don't think you need to keep in contact with him frequently, so don't be worried about that.
As far as having the msgr., I am not sure, but at my church, I know that the original priest you sit down and talk to and set your date with is the one that is going to be performing the ceremony. That's why when I do call to meet with the priest, I am going to request that I meet with the priest I want. Not sure if your church is the same way.

Re: Catholic Church girls question
I haven't spoken with my priest since we met back in February (or March, can't remember), lol.
As for the monsignor, you need to choose a priest that you feel comfortable with. If you're not comfortable with the priest you originally meet, ask to change.

Don't worry about it, and actually you can't even give them the baptismal certficates until 3 months prior. So its not like your behind or anything.
And its totally fine to request a certain priest.

not true we gave our paperwork to the church already I think it depends on the church. Our priest told us to get all the paperwork required ASAP.
Keep in touch with the church at one point FH was calling every week about FOCCUS and Pre Cana.
And you can have anyone do the mass we were asked if we had a priest in mind but I love who we sat with so we are going to keep him.

Ditto. We gave our priest FH's baptismal and confirmation certificates immediately. They didn't say anything about waiting until 3 months out. Guess it really does depend on the church.

hmm thats strange...bc when we first booked our church i sent in FH's baptismal certificate and then the diocese called me and said that his church has to send it 3 months prior bc they make sure you are not married......but like you said i guess it just depends on the church.
FH's confirmation cerficate and baptismal certificate have to be within 6 months of our wedding. So he can't obtain them prior to October 10.

Re: Catholic Church girls question
Our priest said we don't really need to meet again until we have most of the paperwork done. I'm actually booking my pre-cana today for November and then after that all we'll need is FH's baptismal certificate. I need to get on FMIL to get that. Believe it or not, FH doesn't know what church he was baptised at!

Re: Catholic Church girls question
I'm getting married at the same church as you.
We first met with Msgr. Ferrarese (LOVE HIM) and we had to go back to meet with him every month for about 3 months. We requested that he perform our ceremony and he said no problem. I think you should speak to him, it shouldn't be a problem. Good Luck!

Re: Catholic Church girls question
Don't worry about not having contact with the priest. But likely, if he's the one that originally met with you, he would be the one assumed to be doing your wedding unless you specify otherwise. My FH and I are having a ceremony and not a mass so that we can have the deacon that we love do our wedding. The monseigneur might have some other responsibilities going on, so it's best to ask sooner rather than later. Once you have confirmed who is marrying you, I would suggest you meet with him a few times because it makes the ceremony more personal. Also, I would first ask about the time window for the baptism certificates. We were told that ours had to be within 6 months of the wedding.

I called up today and the secretary put a note by my name in the calendar that I'm requesting Msgr. Ferrarese. Hopefully he can do it. Why did you have to meet with him every month for 3 months? Was it b/c you had questions or he actually requested that you come back every month?

Re: Catholic Church girls question
Each time we met with him he asked us questions. I guess it was FOCCUS. But he didn't ask them all at once. He would talk to us then ask us some questions separately. Then asked to see us again. I didn't mind because he is so sweet and funny! It was sort of like counseling which was nice. I think you should set up a meeting with him to meet in person and ask him directly to perform the ceremony.
