Anybody have a problem with not being able to locate your baptismal certificate to get married in a church?
Mom can't find mine, and the only thing she can remember is that it was a small Spanish church in Manhattan (that probably doesn't even exist anymore!)
I've received every other sacrament although not at the church I'm currently registered with, but my mother does have those certificates.
Anybody know if that will do?
I'm hoping the fact that I know all the priests will help smooth over the process a bit....

Re: Catholic church question
They require a copy issued no more than 6 months before your wedding date.
Try calling the Diocese...maybe they can help you track it down.

Re: Catholic church question
Im having the same problem...its even worse for me bc Im getting married in a catholic church but im not even catholic so im guessing they'll want my certificate even more lol...i am going through this whole process now to try and get a copy, but the priest who baptised me died and for some reason there is no record of it the problem is that im supposed to give it about 6 months before the wedding and im almost at my 6 month mark...hopefully somehow it will work, but i am curious too about this

Re: Catholic church question
I just met with our priest last night and asked about this.... FH was adopted. He was definitely christened, he just doesn't know what church. The priest said we can call the diocese in the borough or county it was in (this case Nassua County) and they will help you locate the church.
Our priest told us to wait until 6 months to bring it in also - they send out notification to the church you were baptized in and they'll respond back if you've already been married... they do it with 6 months or less in case you submit it earlier, get married to someone else, and then try to get married in the church.

i know the church i was baptised in but they lost their records of me being baptised there , they asked for pics from the baptism so hopefully that'll work

Re: Catholic church question
Thats strange since if you received all your sacraments at this church, they should already have your baptisimal certificate, no?

Re: Catholic church question
Well, mom said she was going to look in one more chest of 'important documents.' The 'problem' is that I got baptized in the church of my godparents and not my parents church.
It's gotta be SOMEWHERE in this house!!!!

Oh I wish I had all my sacraments in one church!
I got baptized in Church A (who's name no one seems to know right now! LOL) when my parents lived in Manhattan.
Then they moved out to LI, and I got the rest of my sacraments in Church B, so I know they'll have records of reconciliation, communion and confirmation.
But now I belong to Church C and the only thing they have a record of is my weekly collection envelopes Although I've received the Sacrament of the Sick 3 times there (but I don't think that counts).
Grrr at all this red tape!

Re: Catholic church question
Oh sorry I misunderstood. I thought you were getting married in the church you made all your other sacraments in other than your baptism. We are going to the church on Sat. and I know were gonna run into a problem with FH only being baptized, so I feel your pain.
