Hello, Is anyone having a special song played at their church wedding? I am not even sure if the Catholic church allows that . Does anyone know? I would like Ave Maria sung.
Thanks, Jen

Re: Catholic Church Singer
Ave Maria is a staple at church weddings. I've sung it at many (including my two sisters weddings). I am guessing you want to go with the popular Schubert version.
Ugh another thing I gotta think about- a vocalist! And I am picky! This is not gonna be easy!

Re: Catholic Church Singer
Ave Maria was one of my choices for the vocalist to sing before the ceremony started. If they don't give it to you as a choice definitely ask about it.

Re: Catholic Church Singer
i cantor at catholic Masses, weddings, etc. so the only stipulation with songs at a catholic mass or cerermony is that if the song has lyrics, it somewhre must mention God, Mary or Jesus in the lyrics.
Ave Maria is the Hail Mary prayer in Latin....so obviously it is allowed!!! in fact, most catholic weddigns have it. there are MANY versions of the Ave Maria.... the Schubert version is the most popular, the Bach/Gounod version is also nice.

Re: Catholic Church Singer
Hi, Thanks for the responses. Who do you usually get to sing? Ask someone at the church or hire outside? I def want Ave Maria. What about Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring?
Reasonable price for a singer?
Also, are you supposed to know where everyone is supossed to stand etc. or does the church help with that?
Who usually acts as the ushers?
Sorry ladies I am clueless!
Thanks, Jen
