Catholic Church wedding question........

I used to be friendly with a priest and am condiereing the possibility of having him perform the marriage.

Is this allowed? Do I need to ask my church or should I just make the call? (wedding is in less than 3 months!)

I think you have to ask your church first, but tell them he's a family friend, and you would like him to perform the ceremony.

We had a childhood friend, that became a priest, do our ceremony. You must first ask him if he'd like to do it. Then you have to call the church and explain what you want. Typically, both priests need to discuss. In reality, he needs to get permission to perform anything in another church. Hope this helps.

Yes, to the above... also the 2 priests need to discuss who does what, particularly if you are having a full Mass. Our friend a priest will be doing the vows, and the homily. my parish priest will be leading the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

We're having my FH's uncle marry us and the parish priest is handling our paperwork.

He had to call the Monsignor to ask permission but, couldn't get in touch with him so he wrote a letter asking permission, which they were fine with.

I'd ask the priest soon and then contact your church ASAP to make sure they don't have a problem with it.

FH's family friend, who's a priest from another parish is marrying us. When we met w/the church we asked them and they said that was fine...they added his contact info. to our file.

I just recently booked my church and I asked about a visiting priest. The pastor that we met with said that our priest had to write what I think he called a letter of delegation.... but that it was no big deal, because they basically grant permission to anyone that asks.
