Did any of you girls have to get a dispensation from the bishop? I'm Catholic, my FH isn't and we are getting married in the Catholic church, so we had to get one. I was wondering how long it takes for the papers to come back. We did all the paperwork at the church a few weeks ago. Thanks Carol

Re: Catholic dispensation.....question
oh wait, did you not doing everything like communion or confirmation? if so then thats what it is, it has nothing to do with you both being different religions...its that YOU as a catholic are supposed to get baptised, communion and confirmation in order to get married in a church...see im not catholic but i can get married in the church because i am christian orthodox and all they require in my religion is to be baptised so I did everything I had to do according to christian orthodox laws which is good enough for the catholic church, they cant tell me to do something that is not required by my religion, im not converting or anything.

Re: Catholic dispensation.....question
I'm getting married at St. Hedwig's RC church in Floral Park and they said I needed to get a dispensation from the bishop to get married in the Catholic church since FH isn't Catholic. It cost us $50. I also had to give them an updated copy of my baptism with the notations on the back showing that I made my communion, my confirmation and that I was never married before. The priest interviewed both of us..together and then separately. We also have to take pre-canna classes. What church are you getting married in? You should call them and ask about this.

Re: Catholic dispensation.....question
I have heard of this and my church said we had to do it to.... but we only had to sign a few papers and he said he sends it to the bishop. We signed , well I signed them bc I am the Catolic, some papers that said I promise that I will make sure our kids are Catholic and go to church... etc.

We had to sign some papers, interview, and have a baptism certificate. we arent getting married in a catholic church, we are getting married in mine. But in order for the priest to come we had to sign a paper stating the kids will be catholic.

FH is Catholic and I'm Lutheran. We are getting married in a Catholic church and had to get approval by the arch diocese because we are considered a mixed marriage. Any non-Catholic faith is considered mixed marriage. I've been baptized, made my first communion and was confirmed, but we still needed approval. The only thing I had to submit was a copy of my baptismal certificate. You may have already signed the forms when you booked the church and gave them a copy of the certificate.

FH booked it and they called me to confirm, i guess it helps that FH has been going to that church since birth and his mom is head of the choir, volunteers and runs fundraisers and all that plus she also taught CCD there for a few years. When they called i asked all these questions and they said that all i have to do is give my baptism certificate about 6 months before the wedding. So i didnt sign anything when we booked, and i still havent given certificate bc its not 6 months to the wedding yet

Re: Catholic dispensation.....question
I am Catholic, FH was baptized Methodist and we are getting married in the Catholic church. We have gone through everything you have, although as far as the dispensation goes I really don't know much about how long that takes bc the priest told us he would forward it to the Bishop and have it handled for us.
