Catholic Officiant Needed...

Catholic Officiant Needed...

So in order to make my mom happy...I'm trying to have a priest or 'catholic' officiant marry us at the Reception Hall.

Anyone have suggestions?

Belissa and I were laughing last night about me hiring a pastor and dressing him up like a priest...'if anyone calls you father, play along...'

I am meeting with him in a few weeks too. He used to be a priest at the church I went to (and my mom still does) and then he decided to get married, so he left the church. He was very nice when he was there which is why my mom suggested I call him. Good luck.

Thats what won't fly with my mother. Shes super religious and is already pissed off enough that I'm not getting married in a church... I'm pretty sure less conservative RC Churches let their priests do ceremonies outside the church, just not mine apparently.

I was gonna ask the lady at the RH but I figured I would check with you girls first...

No Catholic Church in the Rockville Centre Diocese will allow a priest to perform a ceremony outside the church.

Father Bob! Everyone loved him and make it a point to come over and say what a lovely job he did. He is from a 'reformed' catholic church. FM me for info

ditto to that... if you do get married by a priest outside of the church i wouldn't bet on it being recognized by the diocese of rockville center. you can look it up on the diocesan website... FH actually sent the diocese an email about the issue and their response was, 'that's the rule. period.'

I say eff them. Hahah! This is why I don't DO organized religion, and the only reason I need a priest is for my mom...if it was up to me, I wouldn't care if my friend got ordained online and married us! :) (and this is not meant to upset anyone who is religious, its just not for me)

good for you. i did the EXACT same thing and had a 'priest' marry us to make my parents happy. I agree with you and I really wanted an outdoor wedding and if the catholic church is telling me I can't have one, then I really don't care what they think because according to them I was damned a long time ago.

I also recommend father bob allmen. At the last minute he sent a replacement, and I was sad b/c father bob was SO nice. Carolinebr recommended him to me. he has a website so just google him.

Do what you want, you will never make mom happy by getting married anywhere but in church I am using Rev.Nick he is an ordained Christian minister who is born and raised catholic, he is not a priest..and all the people online that call themselves Father or reform priests are all selling a bag of goods ex priests are not and can never be a catholic priests

there are reformed catholic churches outside of RC churches, so I wouldn't be so quick to generalize and say all reformed priests are selling a bag of goods. I made my 'donation' to a church, I didn't pay an officiant

Your only option is to go with the reformed Catholic church. Do not use Father Bob Allmen, look at all the horrible reviews about him. Stephen DeGarmo is of the reformed Catholic church in Massapequa and he is AWESOME.
