Catholic Priest?

From what I understand there are some catholic priestes that will marry us outside of the church (at our venue), can anyone recommend a priest that I can call who is in Nassau County?
Help please thanks so much :)

Hi-
Catholic Priests do not perform marriage ceremonies outside of the church. Someone who performs these types of ceremonies is usually a defrocked priest or some such who sets up shop and calls himself Catholic. They are NOT recognized by the Roman Catholic church. I have heard of special circumstances where this may need to occur but special permission would need to be obtained by the Archdiocese. Sorry.
Good Luck.

I agree-the only time you can get a priest to go to a reception ste is if it is an interfaith marrige...

plus your marige is not recognized in the eys of the church if it done outside of the church.

Yep. I researched it too - a marriage performed outside of the Catholic church is not recognized by the church unless it is an interfaith marriage. Sorry.

Yep I tried getting a close family friend who is a Catholic priest and was told in no uncertain terms that a priest that performs a wedding outside of the church is a priest that is not in good standing with the Diocese.

I am not getting married in a church either. My hall recommended Rev. Salvatore Umana...his business card says 'Catholic Priest'...but I accept that he may not be in good standing with the church. He is a wonderful man and very sweet. He has promised us the closest thing to a Catholic ceremony without the Eucharist.

If you are interested, FM me.

Re: Catholic Priest?

I wanted to get married in a roman catholic chruch as well but since my wedding is the day before easter so that was a no-go. I decided on a reverand who will be doing the ceremony and then when me and FH get back home to Charlotte, we will have a priest marry us in a RC church.,

Re: Catholic Priest?

I got the priest from my parish to marry us. My ceremony will be an interfaith ceremony with a rabbi.
He said he can marry us because one of us is a baptized catholic. Our marriage will be recognized by the catholic church because he is affiliated with a church. There are a few stipulations though, I had to sign a contract stating that our children will be raised as practicing Catholics. We also have to go to Pre-Cana. The other is that the ceremony must be in an actual building. It cannot be in a garden or on a beach otherwise it is not recognized by the church.
I would recommend calling your parish to ask the priest if he will marry you or maybe he can recommend someone who will.

In all of our dealings we found out that the church will not recognize your marriage if you have a priest come to the hall and marry you-

The only way a catholic priest will marry you outside of the church is if it's an interfaith marriage AND you have to get a dispensation from the Bishop. Otherwise they won't do it.

Re: Catholic Priest?

my FH is Methodist and I am catholic... we are having our ceremony at our hall. Had we chosen to have it indoors, we could have had a catholic ceremony with no problem (bc we are both not catholic). we had our hearts set on having it outside, so we are having a methodist minister perform the ceremony bc they don't have the outdoor restriction and the ceremonies are virtually identical.... then, after the HM we will have a short thing in the RC church that will officially recognize it in the eyes of the church.

you have a couple of options -- go with a catholic priest who is no longer technically affiliated with the RC church (there are some churches out there run by former catholic priests who have maintained most of the RC traditions, but are more progressive than the church on certain issues) or you can find some type of other officiant who will perform a christain ceremony.

if you are both catholic and you want to have an official catholic wedding that is formally recognized by the church, you have to have it in a church. there, unfortunately, is not a way around that. i did a LOT of research when i was looking into our situation.

Re: Catholic Priest?

Actually, I am Catholic and my FH is Jewish. I am going to be married my the Pastor of my Church at my Catering Hall. He is not a defrocked Priest or anything of the sort. He is a real priest and affiliated with a Church. We have to take Pre-Cana and we had to agree that when we have children they will be raised Catholic. Our marriage will be recognized in the eyes of the Church because it is performed by a priest with an affiliation to a Church. We also have to get married in the building. It can not be in gardens.

My advice is to call your parish and ask. You may be surprised like I was. I didn't think I was going to be able to be married by a priest but I figured I would give it a shot.

If you want more info FM me.
