Like I said in my earlier post, we got a new puppy Saturday. Our one-year old cat Lucy isn't adjusting very well. Any time he goes near her she hisses at him and growls. She doesn't want to have that much to do with us either. Her whole routine is screwed up. Any ideas on how I can make her more comfortable?

The best advice I can say is just leave them alone! The cat will warm up on its own time! My dog loves cats so we decided to get her a kitten! The kitten spent a week hiding and hissing at the dog, but watching from a distance! Now that cat is 8 years old and they are best friends. We go the dog another kitten this last christmas and the same thing! We left them alone and they are all over eachother now! It also took the other cat a long time to warm up to the new kitten but now everyone is happy!!
Thanks for the advice! I hope they get along soon- my cat's sadness is breaking my heart.

My cat is also very territorial, and one of the reasons I took him with me when I moved out was the my parents got a new puppy and my cat HATED the dog! HATED it!!!
But, my cat is also going to be 14 years old next month, so he's very set in his ways....and he liked to keep to himself. The puppy disrupted his whole world.
After they broke the Waterford lamp in my parent's living room chasing each other around, we took Gunnar (the cat) to stay with us....... . So they didn't really have much time to get to know each other.
I think cats have a hard time accepting change.....but eventually, they get used to it. You just have to be patient and make sure you still give the cat the same attention (if not more) than you did before you brought the new puppy in....
