I am thinking about getting a cat so that it can chase away mice in my apartment. The problem is, I have a hamster. Is this a disaster waiting to happen?

an exterminator would be cheaper in the long run. but if you want to get a cat because you want a cat, then you can definitely have both a cat and a hamster. i would suggest getting a ten gallon glass tank for your hamster, rather than the plastic hamster cages with bars on the sides. this will prevent the cat from pawing at the bars or chewing on the plastic. keep the hamster somewhere up high where the cat can't jump.
