This comes from observing my FMIL and FSIL ransack the centerpieces at other peoples weddings. Let say I choose a tall centerpeice and rent the base (be it candleabra or whatever). How can I ensure she or other guests don't run off with the bases? I can tell her, yes, but what about other guests? Would it be tacky to put a note on it? Then again, the note would have to be in English and Spanish, due to our diverse guest list. Thanks!

That's a good question. I have a centerpiece at home from a wedding but it was small and we were told to take them by the DJ at the end of the night.
I suppose if it's a tall centerpiece it would be too cumbersome to try to take.
You can do what one bride is doing and have the centerpieces broken down at the end of the night by the florist and give guests the flowers in floral paper (provided by florist)? This could be announced toward the end of the night so people don't run off with the rented base.
ETA: The note is an idea but where could you put it so it's not noticeable (and showing up in pics)? But then the point of the note is lost on the guests if the note is hidden.

Re: Centerpiece Question
The DJ usually says they can have the top. Not the base. I wouldn't write a note, though. Have a confidant just keep an eye out for them. I think it will be obvious if they leave with it...or try to.

Re: Centerpiece Question
My florist told me this story about a guest at a wedding that took the base out of the hall and he chased he down in the parking lot because the bases were 200 bucks each!!
He also told me he comes at the end of the wedding to take the bases back, and if you want he can break them into mini bouquets.

Re: Centerpiece Question
have the dj make an announcement..... better safe then paying for the bases to the florist
