Does anyone have any pics of centerpieces with fish?? FH has had this in his head even before we were engaged. I am planning to go see a few florists and am wondering if this will actually be feasable. I'm not crazy about it...I was thinking roses and candles! LOL

I've seen that before and it looks really pretty. You use beta fish which are really colorful (blues and reds). We were going to do it, but I was afraid that they would die.

But do the flowers go along with the fish? I don't want to lose the flowers! My colors are pink, champagne and brown!

Re: Centerpiece with FISH????
I originally wanted the same idea as your FH, but only for our table. My FH is a big fish person (we have a 85 gallon tank!!) and he was worried that the fish may die or wouldn't be taken care of after the wedding. I don't think your flowers would die because the fish is in there swimming around. Beta fish actually look very pretty with flowers and plants. However, if you do put a Beta fish in there, make sure its by itself and not with other fish because they will fight to their death and that won't be a pretty sight!! HTH

Honestly, I am not a fan of this b/c I think it is cruel to the fish. I know that when I went to look at Jericho Terrace, the BM mentioned to me (b/c they have a pond there) that a lot of the fish were in there b/c a bride got them as her cp and just left them behind.
JMO..
Sorry if I am coming off blunt but I am an activist for all living and breathing things.
I also think that flowers look nicer anyway. I have heard of this though.

Re: Centerpiece with FISH????
My MOH had this for her wedding.
She had bowls with 2 kissing fish, surrounded by a spread of daisies on the tables. It was cute.
My only thing with this is what are you going to do with the fish after the wedding? You will have to give them away bc you need to keep beta fish alone. So do you think if you were a guest at a wedding, dancing, drinking, all dressed up...would you want to take a fish home? How would you get it home?
Just something to think about.
Also, if you really want to do this you can put little cards in with the invitations stating that there will be 12 fish (or as many cp's you have) that will need a home after the wedding. If anyone is interested- the first 12 people to respond that they want a fish will get one to take home. This way they are prepared to take a fish home and will have proper fish items purchased prior to your wedding.

You are all bringing up some good points! I didn't even think of what we would do with them at the end of the night! Let's see what FH says about that! Is it cruel to have them in there if they have plans to go to a tank or pond afterwards? I was also thinking about the possibilty of fish dying at the wedding...not pretty. LOL Thanks for the advice!

If you are going to do Beta fish, you cannot put them into a pond all together. They are fighting fish and need to be alone, nothing else in the tank or pond. Maybe if you did goldfish they would be able to be put in a pond.
To be honest with you, the BM at JT seemed a bit disappointed that this bride left behind all the fish. he thought it was kind of cruel. I hate to say it but I do too. Taking care of fish can become a big responsibility with cleaning everything. Trust me, I had them and had to give them away b/c I could not dedicate the time to it.
HTH..

Re: Centerpiece with FISH????
good points, i agree
also use beta fish!! if the temperature/water fluctuates they can still survive almost anything, other fishes will die, but you have to keep the beta fish alone!!

Re: Centerpiece with FISH????
My parents actually went to a BEAUTIFUL wedding where they had fish in tall vases as their centerpieces. EXCEPT their table of fish had died....and their whole table had to stare at dead fish the entire night!!! Just something to think about!!!!

Re: Centerpiece with FISH????
My cousin did this last year. at the end of the night, they made sure that all the fish were accounted for and in plastic bags. Whoever decided to take home a fish got to keep the bowl they were in on the table. If any were left over, the hotel where the wedding was held put on desks throughout their offices.

I entertained this thought for a bit, but then gave it up. I think it's more of a hassle than anything else. If I did it, I was thinking of actually purchasing food for the fish to give away to the guests that ended up with them.
Jiffy is right though, would you take the fish AFTER a wedding? I dunno.....

Re: Centerpiece with FISH????
i went to a wedding upstate - the groom and his frat buddies were doing 'goldfish shots'....goldschlaggers, and the fish CPs. They were betting on who could down the most fish.
