Ceremony

Ceremony

I'm wondering if its worth having a ceremony -- LOOKING at the budget we have -- having one a ceremony at the RH will cost us about $1000 or maybe a lil' bit more -- thats with the officient of course, but we were thinking about doing all the marriage paper work beforehand at city hall. $1K allows me to invite more guests...

We have three options:

1. if we were to do the paper work before the actual reception date, I thought about just walking down the aisle (at a cheaper price at the RH) and have my sister 'marry' us... instead of paying an officient because we really don't need one.

2. wait till the actual wedding date to sign papers, etc... and just fork over the $1k

3. just have a reception and NO ceremony.

what do u all think?Has anyone done that? PLEASE give me all sorts of response.. much help needed. thanks!

umm i dont know, for me, i would feel weird not having a ceremony the day of.
my 'wedding day' would just feel like a big party then. to me, the most meaningful part is the ceremony..thats where the marriage actually happens so to not have that on my actual wedding day for me wouldnt feel right.
i would just pay the money

ITA, That is the whole reason for the day. 1k is not enough of a reason for to take the lesser road just to invite more guests. In the grand scheme of things 1k is nothing.

I also agree.

ITA as well. the ceremony is sacred and i'm sure your family will want to view that special moment. you can not get that at city hall. not only that but if you decide to walk down the aisle at your RH as u mentioned, you still would have to pay a price to use their ceremony location. If money is really a motivating factor, my suggestion would be to ask your RH how much it costs to rent their ceremony location (my place only charged us $650), and then have your sister officiate the ceremony.

ITA with everyone here The ceremony is the reason for the reception and many guests (IMHO) will feel that something is missing if they don't have the opportunity and the pleasure of seeing you actually tie the knot I know I would....when all is said and done, unfortunately, $1,000 is just a drop in the bucket in regards to the total expense of most weddings.
(It's totally worth it though!!!)

Re: Cemermony

I think the ceremony is the most important part of the day its actually the reason behind the whole day. Yes, the reception is alot of fun and a celebration but its a celebration of you JUST getting married. The whole point to the wedding, more than just a party is you two getting married. The ceremony was the part that mattered most to me, its the part that i will cherish most.

I think using the money towards a ceremony, where you two exchange your vows in front of your family and friends and have that special moment is worth more than using the 1k towards any extra things at a reception.

Re: Cemermony

ceremony is worth everything---remember the party afterwards is because of the ceremony that just transpired!

my ceremony cost the same as what you're looking at....and i would pay double or triple that again. trust me when i say that extra moolah is totally worth it and you'll appreciate it afterwards!

Re: Ceremony

I couldn't agree more! The ceremony is filled with love and emotion...I am def. doin the ceremony...otherwise, as already stated, I wouldn't feel like it was my wedding day. The paperwork is just 'proof' the ceremony happened..

Re: Ceremony

I would totally forgo the ceremony, if it was only up to me, but my family doesn't recognize marriage without it.

If your closest peeps are okay with it, and you don't mind either way, skip it!

I think it depends on what is more important to you. Follow what you truly want.
