Ceremony

If FH is not very religious is it appropriate to have a scripture reading during the ceremony? Are any of you having readins at the ceremony is this part necessary? I am so confused but can't miss the small details will not want to offend anyone.

I think it is up to you and him on how much religion he feels comfortable with. FH is jewish and I am catholic and we are having my deacon and a rabbi. We will do reading just none involving jesus

I think you don't need to have scripture readings if your ceremony is not religious. How religious is your ceremony?? If you are doing more of a secular ceremony then i def dont think you would be offending anyone if you didn't have readings.

We are getting married at the reception hall but our ceremony is religious so we have 2 readings.

We will have a priest and a rabbi there but I don't think we will be doing any readings.

FH and I are not exactly religious, but our traditions do play a part in our lives. We will be having a Rabbi and Priest preforming our ceremony and we will be doing readings. Its not necessary but we feel it will be nice to incorporate that into our ceremony.

It depends on where your ceremony is and who your officiant is. For example in the Catholic church there is a formula for how the ceremony goes. FH and I are interfaith, so we have some flexibility.

Some people who are doing non-religious ceremonies choose to eliminate readings, while some choose to pick bible readings that talk about love in general (like Paul's letter to the Corinthians - 'Love is patient, love is kind') that you can relate to even if you're not religious, or some will use poetry, shakespeare or other.

If your officiant is religious, I would look into the readings. FH is Jewish and we're actually able to pick from the standard Catholic readings and he has found ones that he is comfortable with that are good guidance for marriage.

Don't forget a few things, one it's ok if your FH is not religious, if it's important to you to have religious aspects, you need to discuss it, and two that the bible is part of our western civilization and the story of humanity, whether you believe it's true or just a story, everyone know about and can glean something from Adam and Eve for example, so I'd look into it anyway.
