I was engaged in 2002 and the chuch was going to cost $200. Maybe because my Uncle was the Deacan. Since then I broke that engagement off, moved back home and I am engaged again. I am having the wedding at the church I grew up in. The Priest is asking for $350 as the officiant fee. Then $300 for the church. $200 for an organist. $60 for some church flowers and then we have a co-officiant so we should pay something to him as a donation since he didn't quote a fee.
My mom feels that the priest is asking way too much. I am Episcopal so while we don't call it pre-cana, we go to an all day Saturday group counseling which is costing us $175.
Is this the average cost?

Re: Ceremony costs
That price seems a little high. The fee to my church is $500 (this price includes music). In addition to that we also have to pay $75 for pre-cana. The priest also mentioned that we will have to tip the altar boys about $20 each.

Re: Ceremony costs
I am episcopal as well and I knwo the cost to be married is $500 if you don't belong to our church but its free if you do (besides a donation). We also have 3 counseling sessions to go to and those are also free. But, I guess every church does things differently!

Re: Ceremony costs
My church is a Catholic church and we paid $1000.00, plus $195 for pre-cana. We did get back $200.00 because all our paperwork was in on time and we were not late for the ceremony.

Re: Ceremony costs
That seems high to me personally. I thought mine was high. We are paying $850 total for a Greek Orthodox ceremony. $575 to become a member of the church for the year (FH just payed on Friday, so we really only get a month and a half out of it ), $150 to the organist/rehearsal coordinator, $75 for the cantor, and $50 for the caretaker. Our premarital seminar was free.

Re: Ceremony costs
Our church is $500 for ceremony and then $250 for music. We also paid $300 for foccus and pre-cana that was done through Dicoese and not our church because of the pre-cana schedule.

Re: Ceremony costs/music
Boy, I was really getting off good back in 2002 paying only $200! Again, we went to church regularly and my Uncle was the deacon. That was in NJ and he has since past away.
Sounds like the price range for my church is about average. We are getting the organist who will play the processional and recessional. What about when the guests are being seated? I remember two of my friends had singers but that will cost extra. How expensive is this church going to be?? :)
I would like a Harpist for something original but only for the first 15 minutes when guests sit. I got quoted $350! Wish I could hook up a stereo and pipe some music in thru the sound system. I went to a People's church in Massachusetts that did that. It was really kinda nice.
What kind of music is everyone having for when the guests arrive?

Re: Ceremony costs
It's pricey but not unheard of. Ours is $500 for the church plus $200 for pre-cana.

Re: Ceremony costs
So basically, mine is a bit overpriced. He made like because we don't go to church often we will pay a bit more. That kinda turned me off with an attitude like that.
Then I have to get flowers for the church and either someone to sing or a harpist which is around $350 for when the guests arrive. Oy vey! This is adding up and giving me agita.

Re: Ceremony costs
Our church is $350, plus $165 for the organist, $75 for pre-canna and about $100 for decorations. Definitely more than I thought it was going to be, but o well!!

Re: Ceremony costs
Oh, I still have to add the decorations and flowers so lots more than I expected to pay. In fact, I think I'm going to have a little chat with MY pastor. He's being a bit greedy.
