What's everyone doing about ceremony music and cocktail hour music? Is it inappropriate to have a DJ do your ceremony music? I'm not too sure I could afford a DJ + instruments as well....

we are having a string quartet for our ceremony and cocktail because that is something i have always wanted and was not willing to compromise on..
however...there is nothing wrong with having the dj play music for your ceremony/ch....my sister did that at her wedding and it was great as well!

Re: Ceremony Music
We are having the DJ provide the ceremony music. Many of the weddings I've been to are like this.
For Cocktail hour we are having a Guitar Trio play old spanish songs.

We are having live music at the cocktail hour & DJ at the reception - we love the idea of live music but wanted aDJ at the reception so this is a happy medium. Our DJ is doing out ceremony - they use a small system -

Re: Ceremony Music
I am having a string trio at my ceremony. I just think it sounds so beautiful when the music is live. I am only having them play at the ceremony and not cocktail hour to keep cost down.

Re: Ceremony Music
We are having a pianist/singer for our CH, and he sets up our ceremony music which is played through an ipod. We're using Vitamin String Quartet music, which is all classical covers of ANYTHING you can imagine, from Green Day, to Metallica, to Celine Dion, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles....Everything! You girls may really like them. It was a great way for us to get the sound of the string quartet without the price tag! Just search Itunes under 'Vitamin String Quartet'.

Re: Ceremony Music
I'm having a string quartet for Ceremony and for CH. I actually have 2 rooms for CH so in the 2nd, smaller room, we'll have the DJ playing latin jazz.
I've been to weddings where the DJ provided Ceremony music...it works fine. I would do that over having a friend or relative do music for the Ceremony. I've seen it happen twice where the relative gets caught up and forgets to hit play....one of those weddings we secretly refer to as 'The Wedding of Silence'.
Don't be the wedding of silence...go with the DJ.

Re: Ceremony Music
I'm using vintage strings quartet for the ceremony and for cocktail I'm using a piano and sax player that's a part of my reception band.
I thought the string quartet was very affordable...FM if you want more info on them

Re: Ceremony Music
We are having a keyboard and flute for the ceremony. Then the keyboardist moves to play a baby grand during the cocktail hour.
