ceremony music
For those of you ladies who are having a non-denominational ceremony, what kind of music are you using during the ceremony? Most of you probably know by now that FH and I are both musicians/music teachers, so the music part is REALLY important to us. However, we both don't want wedding 'standards' because we've both played them ad nauseum as hired wedding musicians. What 'out-of-the-box' pieces of music are you using?
About the type of group we want: DEFINITELY a string quartet. The thing is, we both feel weird about asking one of our many friends outright to do it, as we want them to be guests and not have to be 'on the job' for that portion of the day. I'm trying to talk FH into asking some of his current seniors to come and play for us--we'd absolutely pay them, and considering that they need the cash for books and beer when they go to college a month after our wedding. . .
Cool idea of mine: even though he's the better composer/arranger, I'm actually going to arrange the music that I want to walk down the aisle to for string quartet! There's a piece that I sang during my junior year of college with the Chamber Singers, our extremely selective choral group, that I always told myself I would walk down the aisle to. Well, I'm going to e-mail my CS conductor from college and ask him to send me a copy of the piece, Randall Thompson's 'Alleluia,' so that I can arrange a 1 minute version of it for string quartet. I think I'm going to surprise FH with that. . .I know that I've told him before that I was thinking of walking down the aisle to that piece, but he's surely forgotten. Isn't that pretty cool????
