Contact SUNY Stony Brook's Music School or another local college music department. They often have lists of students who are interested in performing for weddings and such -- and they charge a nominal fee.

I am using a string quartet for the cockail hour. I think it cost under $500. I booked them through the Band Store. THE BAND STORE 241 SUNRISE HWY, ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY 11570 Phone: (516)763-6522

Ceremony music and Cocktail Hour

We booked a violin, cello and flute trio with Island Classical Ensembles for the ceremony and cocktail hour (2 hours) for $750. If I remember correctly, of the 7 or 8 vendors I called, the least expensive was the Long Island String Quartet which is $600 for 2 hours. You will find that you pay more to have them for just 1 hour versus 2, since they're already there! I can't help you with finding a pianist! Good luck!

Sounds crazy but...

I have been talking to the pianist that plays at Nordstram's at Roosevelt Field regarding playing at my cocktail hour. My reception hall has a piano there. He is an older guy and very reasonable. Email me,[email protected], if you are interested in his number.
