Ceremony only and a small brunch?

Ceremony only and a small brunch?

With the fact that things are getting crazy (now FI is thinking about having everything done in California), I now thought of a good compromise. Since it would be too much money to do a destination wedding (either in Cali or in the Caribbean), how about doing a very small wedding with the people that is matter most to us: our parents and siblings. I thought about doing it in a garden (such as Brooklyn Botanical Gardens) and then have a small brunch with everyone at a small restaurant. If we do want to spurge, we might do that on photography and the honeymoon. You think it's a good idea? The only bad thing is that in BBG, you have to do the wedding at 9am. The good thing about it is that we have a better chance getting availablity on the orginial date that we planned or sooner. Help ladies. I'm about to hit a wall.

that seems very intimate and romantic!! its a great idea. as for the early start , if you really want that place, then go for it. ....otherwise see what other options you have as to wehre to have it

Thanks. It just I feel very discouraged not getting the date that I wanted at CLM. I don't mind doing it in October but this morning FI talked about my trip there yesterday and he then brought up having the wedding in California. You see, he just moved there for his job and I am planning to join him in a few weeks (I was able to get a transfer too) so it will be extremely difficult to plan from over there. Then again LA is about the same rates as in NYC so we would be back at square one. Having the wedding in Jamaica or St. Lucia will be amazing but I don't think everyone can afford to go down there. So we can just keep it simple here in New York. We both deep down in our hearts want to get married here. Hey it does beat the clerk's office.

yea, whether you have it here or cali, its sooo expensive. you are in a no win situation........ so i would just do it here, and decide on a budget , what about like a hall or something. like brentwood cc. or there are really nice, knights of columbus.

at least you're having it in CLM already while I am still on the bubble. I went to see the photographer and now my motivation of really having it on CLM is coming back. At least we already have the house in NoCal so don't have to worry about that.

It sounds like a lovely idea.

I love the idea of something small and intimate -- but is not really an option for us? Do you mind me asking what date at CLM you were looking for? I was supposed to go their yesterday and we were told Sept. 6 and 13th were open -- I had to cancel because my close friends are getting married at NRC on the 6th.

I was asking for Sept. 27 or 28 (stressing more on the 28th) and it was booked. There is the 21st and October 5th but I think he said it's for the upstairs room and not the big one. We don't mind going upstairs (especially if we now have to cut the guest list to between 100-125). But I am moving to Cali in a few weeks and won't offically return until Xmas so by then I am afraid the date will be booked too. That's when FH suggested to stay in Cali but then we have to fly everyone out there. It would be like a having a destination wedding but more expensive because it's Cali. So I thought of this idea too, which seems nice. However the moment the photographer showed me his profolio this morning, I was thinking, maybe deep down I should have a slightly bigger but still an intimate wedding.

I had a small wedding and still splurged on photography, my dress, veil etc. I love your idea...very nice...

Re: Ceremony only and a small brunch?

Hope for it. I did talk to the photographer and if I really wanted to spurge, I would for that because his work is amazing (especially for the price he gave me). I do hope there is something opened in September at the BBG. I did tried calling them and all I got was voicemail during work hours. If I find out it is open then maybe we can do the wedding sooner. A wedding there costs only $350, while CLM was going to charge $500 (then again having it by the water is great). Another reason why if things work out and we do a wedding sooner is my FH anticipating on starting to have kids. I want that too but after the wedding.

I think it sounds perfect and wonderful. And the early start gives you more time to celebrate with those you love most and who love you!

I guess it is a good idea. Hope FH likes the idea too. Does cut on a few things... invites, dj, cheesy video... but can spurge on photo and honeymoon. Plus I can pick out my own cake (I want Dominican cake) and everyone can have the same ride together in a limo, instead of getting just one ride. I was thinking having the brunch at Tavern on the Green or any good restaurant on the Island (I was thinking that Italian restaurant in Long Beach, forgot the name).

Re: Ceremony only and a small brunch?

bump

I talked to FH this morning and he thought it was a nice idea but once I really showed him the pics for CLM, he's now leaning to have it there. I just told him that maybe we should just bring 100-125 of the most imporant people in our lives instead of 200 just to reach in minimum. Anyway, cross our fingers we stick to it (and that the dates are still available by then).
