Ceremony Readings

Ceremony Readings

Hi Girls!

I'm going to be asking my 9 year old niece to do a reading at my wedding ceremony next year.

I want to keep it simple and easy, so she has no issues reading it.

Any ideas??

What about a Dr. Seuss poem? I know there is one about love, I just don't remember what it is (or maybe Oh The Places You'll Go)

Re: Ceremony Readings

Also there's a great reading from 'The Velveteen Rabbit'. I think that would be great for a little girl.

Here it is...

Excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams

“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but Really loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get all loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

I love 'Oh The Place You'll Go', I just think it's wayyyyy to long. I wish I could shorten it somehow.

We are actually having our ceremony at the Westbury Manor. Just curious though, why wouldn't a church allow this?

Many churches (Roman Catholic at least) are very picky about only letting you do biblical readings inside the church.

FH and I are getting married in a non-denominational chruch, because i really wanted more freedom in choosing our readings, but it was important to us both to have a church wedding.

I haven't looked at it in a while, but I'm sure you would be able to shorten it
