My FH wants to have a family member sing Amazing Grace at our ceremony as well as having another family member sing a song. Do you think that Amazing Grace is a typical song to be at a wedding? I thought it was a funeral song. Do any of you have any other song suggestions?
thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Ceremony Songs
Is your ceremony religious? The song Day by Day from Godspell is a really pretty song with a religious theme to it. Also we're thinking about having FH's sister sing the Irish wedding song at our reception, both our families are irish. I do think amazing grace is a bit of a sad song....

Re: Ceremony Songs
I have to agree with IB9977 on this..As much as I love Amazing Grace too, this song to me, brings tears to my eyes. Sorry to say this, but it's more for the not so happy moments...How about Canon D or Trumpet Voluntary..these are 2 nice ceremony music or even Ava Maria...JMO...

Re: Ceremony Songs
Yes, I totally agree with you!
My FH wants his daughter to sing it at our ceremony. I really thought it was a sad song as well and so do a few other people. I gave him the lyrics to read because I honestly don't think he knows what they are....I am hoping he changes his mind after reading them......I told him if he REALLY wants her to sing it then okay....
I have only heard it at funerals...he says he heard it at a wedding

Re: Ceremony Songs
I always wanted Amazing Grace sang at my wedding, until my grandmother put in a special request that it be sung at ther funeral - so that kind of ruined it for me. One of my bridesmaids sang 'Somewhere' from West Side Story during the ceremony and it was beautiful.

Re: Ceremony Songs
Amazing Grace is not about death - it just seems that way because so many people request it for thier funerals. It is actually a song of hope & inspiration, So if the person really has thier heart set on singing it - I dont think it would be a big deal, and if anyone thinks of being at a funereal while they are at your wedding, they have issues.

Re: Ceremony Songs
you have a good point....like our officiant said 'it is about whatever you want'
If it makes him and his daughter happy, then I can get used the idea of the song.

Re: Ceremony Songs
Wow, I got goosebumps reading about Amazing Grace. I've always associated it with funerals, and Ave Maria with weddings. Somewhere from West Side Story is a lovely idea.

Hello All!
I need some opinions,
My FH wants to have a family member sing Amazing Grace at our ceremony as well as having another family member sing a song. Do you think that Amazing Grace is a typical song to be at a wedding? I thought it was a funeral song. Do any of you have any other song suggestions?
thanks in advance for your help!
well my fh plays the bagpipes and my family was asking him if the pipers at our wedding would play amazing grace - he said its not a wedding song - its typically played at funerals. how about Ave Maria?

Re: Ceremony Songs
I like Ave Maria but here is the deal. His daughter is 12 and will be 13 by the time of our wedding. I think Ave Maria might be a bit complicated for her to sing....it is worth a shot to have her try it out since we have a whole year.
I really appreciate everyone's input.....it helps a lot!!

Re: Ceremony Songs
THERE IS LOVE (Paul Stookey)
- Wedding Song -
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts. Rest assured this troubador is acting on His part. The union of your spirits here has caused Him to remain, for whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name, There is love. There is love.
Oh, a man shall leave his mother, and a woman leave her home. They will travel on to where the two will be as one. As it was in the beginning, is now until the end, woman draws her life from man and gives it back again and there is love. Oh, there's love.
Well then what's to be the reason for becoming man and wife? Is it love that brings you here or love that brings you life? For is loving is the answer then who's the giving for? Do you believe in something that you've never seen before? Oh, there's love. There is love.
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts. Rest assured this troubador is acting on His part. The union of your spirits here has caused Him to remain for whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name there is love. Oh, there is love.

Re: Ceremony Songs
Has anyone heard the new Loreena McKennitt song, 'The Never-Ending Road'? It's lovely... especially for any Celtic brides. I'm hoping to get an Uilleann piper to play it during the ceremony. We'll see... You can hear a short clip of it at:
NEVER-ENDING ROAD (AMHRÁN DUIT) Music and lyric: Loreena McKennitt
The road now leads onward As far as can be Winding lanes And hedgerows in threes By purple mountains And round every bend All roads lead to you There is no journey’s end.
Here is my heart and I give it to you Take me with you across this land These are my dreams, so simple and few Dreams we hold in the palm of our hands
Deep in the winter Amidst falling snow High in the air Where the bells they all toll And now all around me I feel you still here Such is the journey No mystery to fear.
Here is my heart and I give it to you Take me with you across this land These are my dreams, so simple and few Dreams we hold in the palm of our hands
The road now leads onward And I know not where I feel in my heart That you will be there Whenever a storm comes Whatever our fears The journey goes on As your love ever nears
Here is my heart and I give it to you Take me with you across this land These are my dreams, so simple and few Dreams we hold in the palm of our hands
