So I have to make a decision real quick! My original time ti have my ceremony is 8pm. This means cocktail hour will be 8:30-9:30.....dinner served at 10:30 reciption over at 1:30. Originally we said ok because our date is a tuesday, the day before july 4th and we wanted people who work to have time to make everything. Now I'm worried diner will be served too late...do you think its too late? Has anyone been to a late wedding like this? Although its tuesday...its really like a friday night wedding. My only other option is to have the CH at 7...but we would have to get married somewhere else. And it might be hard for people to get there for the CH if they had to work that day. Help........
My FH thinks we should leave it....

Re: Ceremony too late?
We had this same issue for our original friday night wedding at fox hollow. We wound up canceling our date with them. BUT i think you have to know your group. We had a lot of older family members who would have to travel far so we felt would leave early.
If you have a younger wedding you are fine.
These are times that a lot of catering halls have on Fridays and they continue to be in business so i think you will be fine.

Yeah I am worried about my gram she will be almost 82 by then, my Fh Mom will be 71, but with her sisters there I think she will be okay...this is driving me crazy. I would hate to change the CH to 7 and none makes it in time man I want to cry....

You may be able to push it a little earlier -- only because many 9-5ers get early dismissal before a work holiday. For example, I used to get out at 1pm from my old job and my new job lets us out at 3pm. That may help allow your guests to get there earlier. Even having a 30 minute diff. may help ease your fears!

Re: Ceremony too late?
Yeah my job does the same thing, 3pm. So I know the people chief from my job are good for a 7 CH....but there are some jobs that don't. I knew the tuesday was going to bother me a little bit, but this took me for a loop. I wish my FI would not be so laid back about it, he's like 'whatever you want to do is fine, but Ithink wee should leave it' men! Lol

our wedding is gonna be on a Friday, the CH is gonna be at 8:30pm and dinner at 9:30pm we wanted to do it like this because we wanna have the CH in the gardens from our venue cause it has such a South Beach feeling and u can pretty much only experience it during the night. So don't worry about it, u're not the only one, plus this is ur wedding and it will happen only one time

bebita0830, Your hall will be serving your dinner at 9:30, or the appetizers to start?

Re: Ceremony too late?
Cocktail Hour (CH) will be at 8:30 and Reception will be 9:30pm, I'm thinking they'll be serving appetizers shortly after guests entered the room, I gotta double check with my BM

Re: Ceremony too late?
ill be honest, personally i think its a little late for dinner. i would bump up the start time. people will have invitations in advance to know that they need to take a half day to be at your ceremony! with a reception starting at 9:30 dinner wont be served until 10:30 if youre lucky. that is super late!

Re: Ceremony too late?
I am July 3, 2012 also!! We are having cocktail hour start at 7 bc with Ventian Hour it won't be ending until 1. Personally, I felt that most people will be out of work earlier because of it being a holiday. Aside from that I am sending out STDs a year in advance. It gives people plenty of time to make arrangements. It is very much like a Fri night wedding and I went back and forth with this so much myself. In the process of deciding, I received an invite in the mail to a colleague's wedding and its for a Thurs night wedding. I was like oh, ok, have to make sure I leave work on time that day. Thats when it dawned on me that those who plan on being there, will make arrangements to be there on time. Besides who wants to miss all the great stuff at CH?? :)

Re: Ceremony too late?
I love that I have a DateTwin!!
I thought the same thing, They are going to serve small foods prior to the ceremony in a waiting room, I still feel it is late.
The issue is if I bump the CH to 7, they can not accomadate me for the ceremony. I really wanted the flow of everything being in one place. I have found places to do the ceremony before but then we would have to get married at 6. We are already taking our pics ahead of time (most of them), I might try to get them to start the ceremony at 7:45(only 20 min ceremony), and cut the cocktail hour down and finish it by 9. I am the bide after all

Re: Ceremony too late?
No matter what you decide, remember its your day. I know we all go crazy trying to make sure our guests will all be happy, but there is no way we can please everyone! I say if you want the later time so you can have your ceremony later, then do it. You have to do whatever will make you happy because it is your special day and you don't want to look back and regret anything. :) so if you envision having the ceremony at the hall and the only way to do it is to have a later CH, then by all means do it!! :) trust me, those who love you and who will be excited for you will be happy to be there no matter what. :)

I deff dont think its too late-- its a parttyyy! its also the night before people have off, so they can recover the next day! I think you should stick with your original plan and do what you want!

Re: Ceremony too late?
I think youre fine! There was a thread about start times recently and a lot of brides had a similar timeline to yours. Its your wedding! And I agree that some people will appreciate the extra time to get ready after work. We are having an evening wedding too...ceremony starts at 7:00 and everything runs until 12:30. I'm not worried and I dont think 1 hour will make that much of a difference. Make sure its what you want and what makes you happy and your guests will enjoy too

Re: Ceremony too late?
Thanks Ladies. I hate being so undecided. I make my mind up then rethink it again. I wish my date was a Saturday, then this really would not be an isue. I am just going to have to make a decision and stick to it.

Re: Ceremony too late?
I wouldn't worry about guests not making the time. They can always ask their boss if they can leave early because they have a wedding to go to. My wedding is on a Friday of a holiday weekend and our ceremony starts at 630pm. The only people we were concerned about is FH's co workers, because there are so many people there he invited, they would have to close early.

So your thinking I should switch it to a 7 CH? Or that the 8pm is okay as they would be eating at 8:30 at the CH, with their dinner (appetizers will be on their plates as they walk in) starting at 9:30.

Re: Ceremony too late?
We had our CH begin at 8:30 and the party ran til 1:30 AM. Nobody thought it was too late. Our ceremony however was at a church at 5:00 PM. I think you should be fine, especially since it gives people the option of working that day and coming to the ceremony/reception after.
