Ceremony vs Full Mass

Ceremony vs Full Mass

Hey Ladies!

This may be a silly question, but what is the difference between a ceremony and a full mass for your wedding?
Is the only difference receiving communion?

How long is a ceremony? I told our priest originally I wanted a full mass (45 min) but now I think that may be too long...

Will the priest be insulted if I switch it to just a ceremony?

TIA!

Jen

full mass is only done in church and you recieve communion, The priest also read the gospel and its usually about 1 hour.

Ceremony is usually 30 mins max, no communion and basically only readings if you want them - no gospel and doesnt have to be done by a priest or in chruch

i think its what was said in the prior post. A mere difference between receiving eucharist and not.

Check with your church though....mine if you have a ceremony only a Deacon does the ceremony. THe priest only does it at our church if you do a full mass. Not that it makes a difference but I figure if Im doing this I want the priest and the full mass. Its only a difference of 15 mins.

Check with your church. We are having a ceremony b/c fh isn't Catholic, but our deacon made it very clear it will be 45min. long.

We are getting married in a Catholic church. It will be just a ceremony (because Aug. 15th is a holy day of obligation). We will still have 2 readings, a unity candle and a priest marry us. It will be about 35 mins... so basically the only difference for us would be no communion.

i recc just a ceremony, full mass can be very long unless u really want the mass bc u want to make someone happy no reason to have it . they wont be upset if u just want a ceremony.

Hi Jen!

The priest shouldn't be insulted if you choose to do a ceremony if you explain why. Our priest urged us to because there are people on both sides that aren't Catholic and he said a mass can be confusing to those who aren't familiar with the different steps, the standing, the prayers, the kneeling. The mass does incorporate (I think) an extra reading, and allows for more time for say a candle ceremony, that sorta thing. I'm not sure of all of the differences. I think if you explain your situation and that you've given it a lot of thought, they will understand. A wedding mass can be even longer than 45 minutes, depending... I've been to some that were an hour+ all in all.

Our priest made it clear that a ceremony in a church is no less 'holy' than having the mass... it's just a different option. HTH! Good luck
