Is CH music necessary? I don't recall hearing any at the last few weddings I've been to. My FH doesn't think we need it, but we need music for our ceremony which is at the RH, so would I NEED to use them for CH too?

Re: CH music
IMO i think you need some kind of music. Either the DJ playing a pre-set list of easy listening songs or maybe even see if you can hire a musician through your DJ.
We are most likely having a steel drummer play along with a backing track during the CH and the DJ will pick up afterward.

I don't think it's necessary, but a nice touch. I'm going to ask my DJ to not make it too loud though, that I don't like.

I know WCC has a small piano outside of the cocktail room. But I think it has to stay there in the lobby since there will be another wedding going on...maybe. Plus we might have our CH outside if the weather is nice.
ETA: If my FH agrees on getting a muscian for the ceremony maybe we will have it play for CH too if it's not overly expensive.

My DJ includes cocktail hour music in his price.

Re: CH music
I think you need some type of 'background music'. We are having the keyboard player from our band play during the CH

Re: CH music
We are using hte music CD that the hall provides. I found with Cocktail Hour music, in my opinion, is nice, but it was an expense we could cut out. People don't always notice that its there, but they notice that its not.
See if your hall could provide music through their system

Re: CH music
CH hour ALWAYS has music. If it's not a hidden speaker provided by the DJ it's the hall that has music pumped into the room.

Hmmm, I never thought of asking the Hall. But good idea! I'll have to ask them if they provide the CH music.

Re: CH music
I've been to plenty of weddings w/o music during the CH...I actually can't think of any that have had it. Some DJs will include it, since all they're doing is setting up a remote unit and walking away anyway. Or look into hiring a music major from a local college - that's what we're doing.

I don't think its really necessary, but I am having it because I am also having my ceremony at the RH and I need to the DJ for ceremony music, I have to pay him for the whole time he will be at my wedding, so might as well have CH music too!
