I was thinking of putting up chair railing in the bedroom, (Its the two upstairs rooms in a Cape, we are making it our master suite) I was going to paint the bottom section a darker blue and the top section a lighter blue. Keeping the chair railing the same color as any of the other molding in the room.
Does anyone have this in their bedroom or is in more often done in a dining room?
Also the molding color, does it have to be in the white/off-white family? What do u think if I used a pale yellow or maybe a khaki? (I don't want it to feel like a baby's room)
Thanks!

Re: chair railing
Chair rail is primarily used where it is a necessity such as in the dining room or maybe on one wall of an eat-in kitchen where the chair backs continually hit the wall and damage the sheetrock. For more of a formal look wainscottong will be called for. The idea for your bedroom is your own choice based on personal taste but I feel it may look too much like a divider if it is a totally different color than the ones above and below (ie:light blue top white line in middle and dark blue below). I have also seen some people put up a wallpaper border in place of the chair rail and paint one color above and another color below. Again this is an issue of personal taste. Post some pics when you are finished.

Re: chair railing
Thanks!!!
For now I will just paint the room one color and no chair railing. I'm not sure if chair railing will work in the room anyway. I might put a wider molding around the windows and door.

Re: chair railing
I love the look of chair railing in a bedroom like you described. Actually, I originally wanted to do that in my bedroom and my DH thought it would look funny. I found some pictures online and sent them to him and he started to change his mind and liked it too. If I still have the pictures I will post them for you...actually I think one picture was in shades of blue. I think chair railing is becoming very popular today outside of the dining room!
