I've posted a few times (either BHB or 09 Brides) and am really sad to report that FH and I due to financial difficulties (I loss my job and FH is not likely to get a bonus next year - he works in the financial area) are going to have to change our wedding plans from beautiful RH at $80-90pp on a Saturday afternoon for 160 people to ?????
- WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!! We have been planning on one thing and now have to totally change the plans
So - here's my questions ladies if you could stand in my shoes how would you go about changing your wedding plans to be less expensive but still beautiful? I would appreciate names of locations if you have them.
TIA -------------------------------------------------------------------- Again, I want to thank everyone for your wonderful suggestions. FH and I have decided to move the wedding to 2010 (although our BM at the RH we were going with was really nice and dropped the price by $5 and the guarantee by 25 people). However, we are NOW considering just getting married in 2009 at our church and then saving the BIG RECEPTION for 2010. We can't wait to be married!!!!! But we also want to celebrate with everyone who has been so supportive to us since we have been together (we've been together for about 7 years)!
So, although I'll probably be married in 2009, I'll still be planning a wedding in 2010 - what do you ladies think about that? Or should we just wait and do everything in 2010? Please note, that FH and I are religious and have religious family so there is no moving in before marriage.
THANKS AGAIN LADIES!!!!!

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
I would do a brunch or a sunday afternoon to cut costs. Or try having the wedding in the winter. i know places will make deals with you in jan and feb. or what about doing a buffet rather than a sit-down dinner?

If you have someone in your family or a close friend with a decent sized house with a decent sized backyard, I would definitey have it there -- u can make it either casual or romantic.. and it saves too! think about that!

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
first cut the number of guest (I am having a small wedding (60 guests) for this reason) you can also go to a place like Brentwood country club or something like that that offer an all inclusive package... I dont know how much money you want to spend but I think the first thing is to cut the guest list

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
Have a smaller wedding (if possible) Change the date to off season (Dec-March) Have an afternoon wedding, or even cheaper a thursday night wedding. Try to find an 'all inclusive' package deal: check out Holiday Inn in Plainview- its VERY reasonable and its nice.

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
Im so sorry for you! but i have to tell you my sister got maried a fw years ago at the Three Vllage Inn at Stoney Brook at it was wonderful. It was only about 40 people tops, just immediate family and close friends. She had the ceremony there too. She had 1 limo pick me her and my dad up, didnt have a dj but had music playing all night and had a family memeber take photos. I know its not the wedding you were dreaming of but it really was a beautiful inexpensive wedding that everyone had a great time at and Im sure everyone else would understand. Its about you and him and the people that mean the most to you. Good luck with your decision.

Good idea! I went to a wedding last year in a backyard and it was great. They had a dj, a bar and bartender, a couple of waitresses, etc. I went to one years ago that was also fun. They saved by having only beer, wine, soda and water for the drinks. You can do just that or maybe that and have one signature drink or something. I also went to a wedding at a VFW hall last year. They had a buffet and the bar was less formal (the beer was kept in coolers behind the bar) and we had just as much fun at all of these weddings as we have had at more expensive weddings. Whatever you decide to do will be beautiful.

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
I'm sorry to hear that. there are many things you can do and still have a beautiful wedding. You can change your date to start. I am getting married at the Fox Hollow on Feb.15'09. I am paying $55.00pp for a Sunday night -7pm-12:30am (ceremony included). The BM at the venue said i got that price because Jan-Mar is their off season. Even though mine is on a Sunday, the nex day is President's Day and MOST of my guests do NOT have to work that day. Also the kids are on vacation for that week so i'll be able to gon my honeymoon while my son is with my mom. I also rec'd info for the Coral House and they quoted me $48pp for Sunday evening, 46pp for friday the 13th and 46 for Sunday afternoon. I would really so suggest destination but they can become expensive if you don't do it right. But if you want to stay local, definitely check out prices for a winter wedding(Jan-Mar). Not only did i get a great price but i also got A LOT for my $$$$! I feel like i'm ROBBING THEM!!!lol
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
I am so sorry. These are hard times. If you really set on something bigger wait a little longer and see what happens if not maybe have a smaller wedding at a location other than an rh. VFW Hall or KOC or queens county farm is a nice place and rental is not that expensive. Here is the link. www.queensfarm.org If you need any help researching different locations let me know. Good luck and hang in there/

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
The first thing I would do is CUT down the least important items for a reception. For me, those were: Flowers and invitations only because people only see them for so long & then they end up in the garbage. My gown & accessories were reasonable. DH & I did not give each other wedding gifts. What we did instead was pool our $$ together for a down payment on a house, remodeling, & we bought our bedroom furniture.
HOneymoon was an all inclusive resort so that helped.
Photography was my only splurge.

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
Was your original date Labor Day weekend? I would see what your RH is charging for Monday, Labor Day. If not your RH, then look at other ones. I know the Swan Club was pretty cheap for Labor Day/
And you may just have to cut your guest list.
I'm sorry you are going through this. I am in the same boat as you, and may have to cancel the whole wedding all together and push it back a year.

I'd call the Meadow Club in Pt. Jeff. Sta. (or it's in Coram, not sure). Maybe try The WaterMill too.

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
I agree with all the ideas of Sunday, Friday or maybe even a weekday evening. Winter, also a good one. Also, there is the wedding center in commack which, yes I have heard some not good things about on here but you should check it out for yourself. They have packages that include almost everything for around 5K.
I'm personally not a DYI type of girl although I wish I were so I know that it might not be an option.
Just wanted basically to say, to update us with how it went with your Fh and decisions you made.
Also, I just got laid off and yeah, it stinks!

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
If you want to change it to a place that is a little more affordable I would look at Sunset Harbour in Patchogue, they are very affordable, this way maybe u could still have the same amount of guests. Good Luck!

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
to you guys.....
I would also try to price out a destination wedding....but if you really want to have it in new york, maybe you can see if you can do a sunday afternoon wedding, or even a thursday night wedding...you know that the people who matter most will be there regardless of when or where you have it...

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
Don't worry....it will all work out!! Remember the most important part is marrying the love of your life!! My FH and I were just looking at reception halls last week. West Sayville Country Club was beautiful but too small for us....but the price was UNBEATABLE. $85 per person, including taxes and tips. That was for a Saturday night summer wedding. Now change that to an off season, day or Fri/Sun. wedding and maybe it will be doable for you guys!!!! (Also, Steve the GM was fantastic....I'm sure he could work with you.)
Good luck!!

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
u can save with a saturday afternoon - i kinda wish i had this- i would have had an after party in a backyard or bowling alley and wore my dress longer!!! Not even with the reception hall but other things and you can save thousands. ... do not get a photo package with an album (for now) and you can save at least $800 and can always order it later when you have less wedding bills and more $$$, (in the meantime-enjoy your prints, frame them, make your own album for now) you really don't need limos, you can have low centerpieces instead of high, go to party city for invites (they have nice ones you can order from a book), you don't need extra dessert - everyone is too full anyway. you can get a beautiful dress for less than 1500 - tell them your price before trying on so you do not fall in love with a more expensive one (you can get a beautiful one for 200 depending on where you go and your style!) ...
have a big cocktail hour and open bar - people love this! everything else doesn't matter much.
it'll be fine and beautiful!!! no worries!

Re: CHANGE OF PLANS!!!!
another suggestion is just utilize photography coverage, get the dvd of photos, and do the album a year later as an anniversary gift.

IMO i would just do the ceremony and reception on the same day in 2010, but thats just me! if you can't wait to be married and want the reception later then go for it.
