Changed engagement ring

My FH proposed while he was in the police academy. Now that he is on the job and making more money he went behind my back and completely upgraded my ring. He told me he was taking it to get cleaned and he changed the whole thing. My diamonds are still the same but there are more of them and it is raised higher. It's beautiful...but I am a litle sad. I feel like it isn't what he originally proposed with, but he said it shouldn't matter becaues the diamonds are still the same. Did anyone else ever upgrade their engagement ring? My friends think it's rediculous that I am upset over this..what do you all think?

I actually downgraded my ring! and i did feel sad about it... i had a princess cut with a pave band.. well diamonds kept popping out of the band, so we changed it to just a plain band... i kept the same diamond though... we were also supposed to put the diamonds from the band into our wedding band... but that never happened because our jewler stunk!!

I still feel sad every know and then, because it isnt the ring he proposed with, but for the most part i got over it...

Aww I can understand you being upset, but in a sense it is still the same ring, just new and improved. My friend changed her band because her FI got her a gold band and she wanted Platuinum, kept the same stones just changed the band itself. Even though you were happy with the ring, he may not have been and even though it upset you he tried to do a good thing.

I hear what you are saying. Maybe mention it some how to FH....maybe he will re-propose

I changed mine for a number of reasons..... and I made FH re propose to make me feel better. LOL

Huh. it never even dawned on me that i fall into this category. i wanted FH to propose to me using my mom's ring (she passed away.) He did, but I knew I'd want the setting changed. Now it is and I like it so much better! I still think of it as the same ring, just personalized just for me!
