Changing jobs and pregnancy

Original post by ddunne23

For all you BTDT moms and soon-to be moms I really need some advice on my job situation. Heres the deal: I'm misreable where I am at right now, and have a feeling the company is going down. In the past two days I have received calls for interviews from three different jobs I applied for and I think would be great opportunities, possible with a highly recognized national company. This is not saying I will definately get the jobs, but you never know. So my question is did anyone change jobs right before getting pregnant or very early on. I do plan to work after we have a child simply because I have to. So is it extremely unprofessional to pursue possible new opportunities knowing your plans for a family.

PS.. I suppose it helps to tell you I saw two pink lines this morning!!!

Congratulations!! For the job, what I am planning on doing is staying at my current job until after I have the baby, and then look for a part time job somewhere closer to the house.

-> DOREEN! Congrats sweetie, I'm so happy for you!!!

I thought about getting a new job while I was preggo, b/c I was miserable too. But, I knew that being preggo would make me a target for discrimination (even though no company would ever admit to that...but it is TRUE!)
I decided to sit tight b/c...most companies stipulate that you must work for them for 12 months time before you would be elligible for any maternity leave benefits. So, it really would not make sense for you to give up your current job at this point. Hang in there, and keep telling yourself that you are only doing it to make the baby's life better!

Congratulations!

Regarding the job it sounds like your benefits are much better than many many places.

Right now at my company I will get 4 weeks at 100% of my salary and 8 weeks at 80%. Not sure how other companies out there work.

That is a really good short term disability plan. I would stick it out for 9 months. What about vacation time? can you add that in too?

Congrats! When is your EDD?

Sorry I have no info on your job search, but if you do go on interviews, I would be up front about it.

Congrats!!!! What wonderful news!

As for the job search, I think I'd stick it out a bit longer ... mainly for the maternity leave and then look after the baby is born.

From my own calculations it looks like my EDD is around 10-22! My Dr appt is March 1. They won't see me before that unless I feel there is a problem....which surprise me...since how will I know if there is a problem...I'm not the dr!
