For those former brides who have changed their last name - how long after your wedding were you able to change it? Do you have to wait for your marriage certificate before you can change anything? And did you change everything at once, or do it in pieces (what needs to come first?)
I thought I'd be able to change my name the day after I get back from the HM, but now I am hearing it could take months for my marriage certificate to come

We got our marriage certificate about 2 weeks after the wedding. You need that to be able to change your name.

TY!! That makes me feel a little better. Someone told me it takes 2 months and I freaked out a little!

We were gone for 2 weeks on our HM and when we got back our marriage certificate was in our huge pile of mail. once you get your certificate you can start changing things. actually, you can call your credit card companies as soon as you want to change because none of mine required proof of marriage - it was all done over the phone.

I had to wait for my marriage license to be returned to us (took about a week) and then I went to the Social Security office and need my original marriage license and old SS card in order to make the change. It's official as of that day but you will have to wait 2 weeks for the actual card to come in. So the whole process will take about a month in total after the wedding day.
I'm not going to be changing my name on my driver's license or passport just yet since I have tickets already booked under my maiden name and it all has to match. I will change them after the trips are over.
