ok, so i have a somewhat complicated situation...maybe one of you have experience or knowledge with this...
FH is not a citizen but he is a permanent resident. He filed for US citizenship recently but has not gotten called to come in for the test and interview...and probably wont until next year (after we've been married)
Here is the confusing part....FH has his mother's maiden name but will be officially changing it to his father's last name. But that wont happen until next year....so what do i do about our marriage license???
if our marriage license doesnt reflect my new married name how difficult will it be for me to change it on my SS card and passport later? and if i do put the change down ont he license will they question why i am putting a last name down that isnt my FH's last name???

Re: Changing last name question
You can typically change your name whenever you want regardless of weather your married or not. For the time being, since you know at some point you will be changing it, I would keep your maiden name so you don't have to change everything else more then once.

Re: Changing last name question
i dont think the new surname that you put on your marriage lisence has to match your FH's current last name...
i dont know how hard it is for him to change his last name though

Re: Changing last name question
Yeah, that's a tricky one. I would just put your last name on the marriage certificate and then change it later. I put my maiden name on my marriage certificate and plan on changing my name soon. I actually just heard about David's Bridal doing a name change service for about $30.00...looking into that because apparently it is a annoying process.

Re: Changing last name question
I would call the town clerk to get a definite answer.
Legal name change seems to be a pain in the a$$ that I will be going through after our HM. And it'll cost you ~$250. So If you can just take your FI's soon to be last name on your marriage license I would do that.

Re: Changing last name question
thanks ladies....if i could just put down FH's soon to be last name on the license then that would help out alot. I wont actually change anything else officially until after he has his documents showing the change.

Re: Changing last name question
i think the license only gives you options like your current name, your FH's last name as listed on the license, a combined name using both names or a hypenated name ...
