I got married last weekend but we are leaving for honeymoon next Tuesday. All Info for the trip is in my maiden name. Should I wait until after the honeymoon to switch my name with DMV and Social Security or should I do it now? If I change my name now would it cause problems if all documents are in my maiden name?

Re: Changing name
You cannot change your name on your social security card until you have a certified copy of your marriage license. I don't think that a certified copy will be available until after you leave for your honeymoon. I think it takes a few weeks to process. Have a great time!

Not sure, but I was under the impression you can go to SS office and change your name any time you want to whatever you want last time I was there? Not sure, it was a few years when I needed something for my passport. I would call the SS office and ask them...
Either way you should be safe I am very sure they keep a record of any past names with your ssn?!?! But again I would ask them!

You cannot change your name any time you want on your SS card. You need to fill out a form and present a document showing your old/new name such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order. According to the SS website they will only accept original or certified copies of the document (notarized copies or photocopies are not acceptable).

Re: Changing name
Thanks everyone....I actually got the marriage license last week. I couldn't believe it. I got it in less than a week. But I'm going to wait until we get back its just less confusing.
Hi Lori!!!! OMG the wedding was awesome!!!!! I know I said I would have a review last week but things are still so busy. Trying to get things finalized with the honeymoon. I will try to get it up this week. I will email you pics and hopefully by the time I write my review I'll be able to figure out how to post pics.

Re: Changing name
Don't change your name until you get back, my SIL went on a business trip after she got married, and they booked her flight in her maried name, but she had no proof of it because she hadn't done her paperwork yet!
She had to purchase another ticket, or go home and get her marriage license!
