Changing Name on Passport Info...

Changing Name on Passport Info...

I got my passport 2 years ago and was just married last month. I was under the impression that I just needed an amendment to my passport in order to change my name, but apparently that is not the case anymore!!!
You have to renew your passport ($67) and get new passport photos. The only way you do not have to do this is if your passport is under a year old. I just thought I would share this with everyone... So Frusterated!!!

I don't know, I was thinking about the same thing, my passport expired in 2011 I obviously need a new one before then, I am just worried that it is going to take soooooooooo long for it to get here and I want to travel next march!

Thanks for sharing this info - I thought that you just needed to update your current one as well. Do you know off-hand what forms of ID do you need after you're married to update it? We're getting married in Nov., but we already booked our next cruise for March. I wonder if I'll be able to get it in time if there's such a backlog?

I don't think that's entirely accurate - if you change it within a certain amount of time after getting married, it should be free. Search on here, I know I've seen that info here before.

That is the case - why don't you keep your maiden name on your passport and remember to book any international trips under your maiden name.

I think if you need to change your name in the first year of the passport - they don't make you renew it.

It's just a year, if it's more than a year, they will issue you a new passport (this has just changed fairly recently I think because everyone was telling me I'd just have an amendment but, I received a new passport).

You need your marriage certificate, a form from the internet, a check for $67, and two photos (you can get them at CVS).

I just sent mine in 4 weeks ago and my new passport came in three weeks. I was surprised.

If you are worried though about the timing, you can just book your travel in your maiden name and use your current passport.

Ah, okay. So if you got your passport within a year of getting married, you don't have to pay again. Is that right?
