Changing Photographers after deposit

Changing Photographers after deposit

HI Ladies!!

It's been a while since I've posted, just flowing along with the wedding breeze!

I have a co-worker who just let me know he used to do photography.. he showed me his website and I was immediatley blown away. His stuff is so modern and amazing that I fell in love with his work. His equipment is high end, tens of thousands of dollars was put into his equipment and his website is un-real. He said he would do my wedding free of charge, of course I am NOT letting him do it for free, so we decided on $400 for him AND his assistant (who's also amazing) and i'm feeding them.

Problem is, I already gave a deposit of $450 to my photographer in October. I don't expect it to get it back, but how do I let him down easy? Any wording I should use? He's so sweet, and I loved him, but I would be saving $1k if I went with my co-worker, whos work I like better.

I hate confrontation!

I think honesty is best- Explain that a friend who is a photographer offered their services to you and your FH and that while you love their work, saving money anywhere is ideal.

You have to go with your gut.. you wont get this day back and photography is the most important. This will hang on your walls for years to come. just be honest because nobody will be able to give your day back to you if you make a mistake that you were unhappy with.

I agree, just be honest, also maybe see if you can use the $450 already paid for something else. Like maybe for a portrait session, holiday photos, or Engagement pics etc. This way the money isn't wasted. It's worth a shot at least to ask!

That's awesome. I say the same, just be honest.

I agree! Go with your gut and just be honest. You'll never see the again anyway. My FH wanted to drop video for a long time. As it got closer and I realized we couldn't afford everything, we dropped video but still got charged $500 for dropping it so late. Do it now before you get stuck with more to pay than your deposit.

Thanks guys!

Unfortunatley I already have my photo booth through my DJ.. and I really don't want to take engagement pictures :( I hate pictures with a passion, I feel so awkward in them :(

I'll look into it, I haven't contacted him yet, I want to look at my contract first

I had a change of heart with photographer and lost my $500 deposit. you probably won't get it back ESPECIALLY if you are like 'we changed our minds'. I told my photog we decided to get married on an island lol I felt bad saying I didn't want to stay with them. they told me I could get a family photo shoot credit or something with a session up to 1 hour and a print. I knew I'd probably take the $500 deposit hit but for me it was worth it.

I too changed photographers....I ultimately got my deposit back but he made me jump through hoops to get it back and it came down to me sending a certified letter highlighting emails that indicated my dissatisfaction. I got my deposit back, however, if I didn't FH was NOT having it with changing photographers and was quite upset with me. I got the money back, changed, and I am so much happier! You have to go with your gut!
