Changing Reception Halls- Please Help!!!

Has anyone change reception hallswithout it being a huge disaster? I am stressed the hell out because we have a 100 person minimum for our Sept '08 wedding but the more we talk about it the more we realize that we got caught up. We really only want about 50 people and we do not want to spend a ton on this thing. So far we have given our hall $3500 but I feel like we should cancel now and try to start all over again. Will this be a mess? I know we won't get the whole $3500 back but if we lose some money it will be worth it if it means saving more money in the long run. Please give me advice/tips before I have a freakin' panic attack. Thanks!

No - do it!

In fact, I did the SAME exact thing.

You said Sept - so that's more than 6 months away - you should be able to get all of your $$ back, unless it states otherwise in the contract.

If you feel like this is put you in a 'hole' or really be a lot - better you figure that out now, then later once all the $$ is spent.

Personally, I think it's smart.....and you will have no problem finding another RH

If your hall is in Suffolk County, you have no problem. It is suffolk county law that if you cancel 6 months in advance, they have to give you back all of your money, minus $100, regardless of what your contract says.

Before you cancel make sure whatever reception hall you are looking at has the date you want available and find out what their minimum is also! Then if evryything looks good then cancel. It seems my friend did this and now had to postpone until 2010 so she could get the date she wanted.

You have to sit and weigh all your options. Have you discussed this with your parents?

Figure out what hall you want to use,are they available, what will it cost there as opposed to what you will lose with the hall you are currently using. Good Luck, you have time. Just make sure you are making the decision that is right for you and FH

mine is in nassau also and the contract states that every single time i make a payment, its labeled a 'deposit' and you do not get ANY deposits back... so if all the halls in nassau run this way, then you are going to lose every single penny you sent them

Right - unless your contract states that you can get a certain amount back, it's very likely that all the money you've already paid will not be returned. Consider that strongly before you cancel since that's a nice chunk of money. Good luck!

I just changed my hall. The reception hall I cancelled was in Nassau. I am losing $1000. If they book the date I get the rest of the money I put down. I had to go with what my heart said and I wanted it at the Crescent Beach Club so I made the call today.

mine as well, so you have to make sure you can get the $$$ back, is it possible to change to a smaller room if they have one?
