Changing Religions

Changing Religions

I've been thinking about becoming Lutheran ( I was sort of raised Catholic but was never confirmed). DH and I want to find a religion we are both comfortable in (he was never baptized and is technically 'nothing' although he'd be protestant if he was)... so far Lutheran seems very interesting.

My question is- has anyone switched religions or churches? If so, how do you do this? Do you just show up to church, check out the service, speak to the Pastor, etc?

I'm so confused.

I would call the Lutheran church you are interested in and make an appointment to go speak to one of their pastors

You can just walked into the Church and attend a service. But if you want a lot of detailed information just make an appt with the pastor. He/she will be more than happy to sit and discuss this with you.

Dina - I would talk to the Pastor. I too am Catholic but getting married in a Lutheran Church. I feel very comfortable there and I love the Pastor's way of thinking.

Not to be controversial but I feel a lot better taking marriage advice from my Pastor who is married with kids than some priest who will never have a relationship with someone other than God.

The pastor has no qualms or concerns about marrying me and FH - FH is divorced and jewish. His theory was you are going to get married no matter what so why not by me (Catholic church would not marry us - but for a $2000 annullment they'd do it)

I would definitely call and make an appt. to talk to the Pastor - he/she will tell you how do go about it. Everyone who I have dealt with so far has been wonderful. I wish you the best and please keep me posted and I will be looking into this after the wedding.

Re: Changing Religions

my religion is rusty (I was raised semi-protestant...but mostly agnostic)

but for Protestants...if you were baptized and confirmed...their is no conversion needed...

if you weren't...you would need to go through both...

presbyterian and congregational are others you may want to look into ...as they are both pretty progressive..
