I am getting married in 11 days, can anyone give me the steps on how to go about changing my last name...post office, DMV? Do I just go there and tell them I am getting married? I know it seems dumb, but do I submit forms before the wedding?????
Thanks, I really have no clue about this.

Great question. I think you have to request several copies of your marriage certificate to make these changes. Does anyone know??

Thanks. I already got the marriage license. Do I have to go back to town hall to obtain additional copies?

Re: Changing Your Last Name
When my SIL did this she needed several copies of the marriage certificate and went first to the DMV to get the license change. Once you get the new license, then everything else is a piece of cake, since that form of ID is the most important.
However you will still need copies of the marriage certificate for Social Security, and such because they all require it.
Not sure where to get the copies from, I imagine whoever issued the certificate can give you copies.

Re: Changing Your Last Name
I changed my name after the wedding. Most places needed a copy of the marriage certificate you receive in the mail after the wedding. The places you go will have to forms there that you just fill out. I went to the bank, DMV, called all the credit cards and medical insurance but I still have to do the Social Security office.

ETa - because I didn't see your last post
I made copies of mine I keep one in the car since I haven't changed at DMV and I needed copies at work to change my W2s, health plans, etc. But most of the places want the original with the seal I know I changed my credit cards over the phone, I didn't need the license.
Good luck!

Re: Changing Your Last Name
Got that, but when we receive the copy with the officient signature.....can we make copies for ssn, etc., on our own... Or does it have to be an original copy....(if that makes sense)
