I've been thinking of hyphenating because I don't want to loose my Italian name.

Re: Changing your name or hyphenating?
I think I must be in the minority here...
Keeping my name.

I cannot wait to take his last name! I guess I'm more traditional in that aspect.
Also, since I am in retail, I don't use my last name at work - so changing it doesn't really create any issues for me there.

I am changing my name. The way I look at it the name is my father's name. And growing up means leaving your parents and starting your own family. So I'm going to take FH's last name.
i feel the same way, i am taking FH's name too.

I am taking his name. It will be weird to have a new name, but we are starting a family together so I want us to have the same name.

I'm hyphenating. I've always been called by my last name or some variation thereof. I tried to convince FH to combine our names which would create a very good last name...but he's not into it. I still have a year though!

I was in a similar position since I had been practicing as a therapist and researching etc for a while. Also my my dad is the only boy and he had all girls so our name would be dead.
I did something a little different- I added DH's name to mine w/o a hyphen-I have two legally last names---I use maiden name professionally or both names now when I publish and his name when I want to be short and easy--best of both worlds for me but it's a very personal decision.
