Re: Changing your ring from yellow to white gold?

Yes you can dip your ring almost every store does it . Its no more the $50 dollars .... And you do not have to do it every 6 months .... I did my ring not (ering ) and it was almost a year and it still looks fine .

I think you mean rhodium, not platinum ??????????? If you find a semi-mount that you like, it may already have sidestones and the total cost may be = or less than the cost to replace those stones and have the ring dipped.

Re: Changing your ring from yellow to white gold?

there is no such thing as white gold. white gold is regular gold dipped in rhodium(sp?). so eventually, if you have a white gold ring, the rhodium wears away, and you can have it redipped.

That's not true--all gold less than 24 carat has other metals mixed in. 24 carat gold is too soft to be worn as jewelry, which is why it has the additives. 'White' gold is mixed with metals that give it a whitish appearance, but it will never be as white as silver or platinum, so it's dipped it rhodium, which is a metal related to platinum. Even if all the rhodium plating wears off, the ring won't be bright yellow gold, it will be a yellowish white. It's the same thing with rose or green gold--they have different metals mixed in. I know that rose gold has copper, I'm not sure about green gold.

My engagement ring is platinum, so I don't have to worry about it! I'm going to get a platinum wedding band to match.

platinum is a little more exspensive, but it never has to be re-dipped. just a thought -- but I would think the costs of getting the ring dipped add up if it needs to be re-done every so often. it sounds like platinum may be a better option in the end.

But you'd have to replace the ring to have platinum. You can't just turn yellow gold into platinum or dip it in platinum and have a real platinum ring.

You CAN, however, dip yellow gold and get white gold... HTH

Re: Changing your ring from yellow to white gold?

I paid only $40.00 to have a ring dipped, but it is true, you will have to get it done every few months. It depends on how much you wear your ring and what you do while you are wearing it.

I think 40.00 every 3-4 months is worth it! You should get your engagement ring cleaned anyway.

why 3-4 months? dont let the jewelers tell you that-go when you think you need it done-

I wear it everyday, but only got it dipped once in over two years- not even cause I had to, but just cause I wanted to have it done before our wedding...

Re: Changing your ring from yellow to white gold?

a friend of mine did this, and it looks reaaly good. The only thing she told me was that the jewler said she would need to do this every 5 years or so- they 'dip' the ring into white gold, and the ring can get scratched which will cause you to be able to see the yellow gold underneath.
