Charging wedding expenses
What are/NYC & LI brides are doing
Anyone charging the wedding
I have friends who charged their $60K wedding on a 0% interest for 12 months Visa card (Bank of America).FI does not even have credit cards and pays cash for everything. I use my AMEX for points but pay it off each month. In fact, the bill is on my desk now - payment due 9/16/05

Check this out - old article that I posted before.
CNN article - Texas couple charged their $41K wedding/honeymoon and have $27,500 left to pay off on their credit cards to the tune of about $3K in interest per year.
I really found it odd that they would charge wedding expenses when their debts include $60,000 in school loans, $10,000 on credit cards, $60,000 in car loans and a $225,000 house with a $210,000 mortgage.

Re: Charging wedding expenses
Charging anything scares the heck out of me. I don't think I could bring myself to do it! I already paid off a huge CC bill and don't want to do that again!

Re: Charging wedding expenses
The only time it makes sense is if you're going to do it for points or mileage and then pay it right off.

Re: Charging wedding expenses
The only things weve charged were the little things. necklaces, rb pillow, unity candles, flutes. Things like that. I would never be able to pay things off otherwise.

Re: Charging wedding expenses
We plan on charging ALOT! Not that we don't have the cash... But why pay cash when you can get the points... and then just pay it right off.

I think my Hall is the only one that actaully takes CC... All the others where I have gone, they don't take them.

We are paying in cash for every vendor who will not charge tax. We will charge anything where we do not get that break. Those miles, from my mother, are giving us 2 free round trip plane tickets to Hawaii. We are reimbursing Mom for the things that are charged so her miles are replenished.
I charged my wedding shoes. $180. I hope that doesn't put me TOO far in the hole.

I agree. I am collecting tons of American Airline miles each time I make a payment to Land's End. Woo-hoo!

Same with us - we pay in CC and then pay it off right away to get the points. We don't charge what we can't pay off right away.

Re: Charging wedding expenses
Those 0% cards can be a cash advance paid in full by 12 months. It seems ok if you can be disciplined enough to pay it off. Also, it may give you enough points to book your air for your honeymoon. It's certainly not the best way to do things, but another strategy.

Re: Charging wedding expenses
If I charge anything, I pay it off immediately. I am trying to pay everything right away, and so far have been successful. I think we might end up charging things at the end, only when (and if!) we run out of cash. I will make darn sure, though, that whatever is charged in the end will be paid off the next month.Welcome New Vendors
