charity favors?

charity favors?

How many of you are doing this? If you are, how are you doing it? Are you just giving a donation, and then putting cards at each place saying so? Are you giving something else as well (candy, etc)? Are you giving something related to the charity (ribbon pins, livestrong bracelets, etc)?

Also, what charity are you giving to?

I'd like to do this, and I'm thinking of doing it by buying livestrong-style bracelets so that I have something physical to give to symbolize the donation. I haven't really decided yet though.

eta: oops! I meant to post this on the BHB to get the perspective of brides who are closer to their weddings and so have already bought their favors... I'd love to hear opinions from you ladies as well anyway!

We are probably going to do the American Cancer Society. I haven't completly looked into this yet, but I do know if you go to their website they give you all the information and the ACS gives you the scrolls to leave at each place. . . but you have to give a certain amount of money to get a certain amount of scrolls. I LOVE the Livestrrong bracelet idea... hmm, note to self!

I am not planning on doing other favors.

Actually, you can get those bracelet things for all different causes... if you go to www.thehungersite.com and go to their store, they have a whole range of bracelets for different causes... it doesn't just have to be for a disease.

Actually, that's one of the reasons I haven't bought anything yet (other than just because I still have a lot of time, and I don't want to buy and then change my mind). I can't decide which cause to donate to/represent on the bracelet. There are so many good ones that I feel strongly about.

we donated to long island cares--the harry chapin food bank.
we're going to have a frame on each table telling our guests that we made this donation in lieu of favors

Thanks for pointing me to the www.thehungersite.com. As a teacher, I love the literacy bracelet (they donate books for lowincome families) the breast cancer site (my mom is a survivor).... so many great charities... I think I am defintiely going to get some bracelets for them as favors!

Thanks!

ha, I know, see why I'm having trouble choosing?

I honestly think I might just buy a bunch from each different cause and give out the mixture. They are all just such important causes.

I plan on donating to the American Cancer Society and the USO. I am going to print up my own cards to place on the tables to let the guest know a donation has been made in lieu of favors.

that's not a bad idea. maybe pick a charity for every 5 tables or something! Hmm....

We are planning on doing the livestrong bracelets and leaving one at each table with a note.

I am thinking about the American Cancer Society, but have not really looked into it yet.

I am planning to donate to the Leukemia/ Lymphoma society and to Susan B Komen organization for Breast Cancer. I think I am going to get both the live strong bracelet and the pink for breast cancer bracelet, along with a scroll to put on everyone's plate saying that a donation has been made.
