Re: charley horse
When that happens, get out of bed and step flat down on your foot. It sounds crazy and I'm not going to lie, it hurts like a motherfcuka initially, but it makes the pain go away much quicker than if you just wait it out while lying in bed.
I get them every week or so. Sometimes I just get too lazy and wait it out in bed.

Re: charley horse
I just remembered how I got them in both legs one night.
I actually kind of enjoyed it.
But had to wrap those disposable heating pads around my calves in Ace bandages the next day.
HAWT.

I used to get them a lot but they've subsided. I bend my foot back, stretching my calves when it happens & it helps a little.

OMG, they're horrible! I get them more now that I am working out. The best things you can do is: 1) get lots of potassium, 2) drink lots of water and 3) stretch the muscle as its happening (if you can!)

Ugh I hate THOSE! I've woken up screaming from them, too. FH taught me a trick though, point your heel down and your toes straight up in the air and it's like instant relief. It's amazing. I don't know if it's anything like childbirth, but they are common during pregnancy. Apparently they are caused by potassium deficiency. Eating a banana daily is *supposed* to help.

Re: charley horse
Worst pain ever!!!!
My DH usually is very quick to it and rubs my calves for me. It's one of the sweetest things he does.

Re: charley horse
i heard drinking a glass of milk helps as well. i tend to get them if i drive alot of miles in a day or wear heels for an extended period. always my right calf....so bad so i hear your pain.
i think its extra bad too since it wakes you from a perfect sleep.

Re: charley horse
I get them occasionally, at least once a year. But I've gotten them more frequently now especially if I'm doing a lot of standing and dehydrated. FH and I went to 2 different concerts in 2 weeks and I noticed I got a charley horse both nights - while I was sleeping of course. It's the most painful thing ever. I always get them in the middle of the night and it's always in my right calf! The last time I woke up with one, FH woke up too and said, 'what's wrong?' and all I could yell was, 'chaaarrllleeeyyyy horrrssseeee!' Funny thing is, once the pain subsides I fall back to sleep immediately.

That's probably the best thing you can do for it to help the pain.
